<p>It depends on who I’m talking to. Around my intellectual peers, I’m pretty honest. I don’t name off everywhere, just a couple of the 7-8 privates I’m going to apply to, in addition to the state school.</p>
<p>Around other people (the kid sitting next to me in X class, someone who probably wouldn’t even recognize some of the places) I’m a lot more general. “A few private schools around the country.” People know I’m smart, but I don’t want to appear pretentious. “Yeah I’m applying to JHU, Duke, Rice… You? Oh, StateU…” That isn’t how I would be, but I’m afraid that’s how I’d be perceived. :< Now once I get accepted somewhere… different story. :)</p>
