it’s true, you can only apply to one undergrad school within NYU. if you apply to tisch, you will be put into a studio within the tisch school. at your audition you can say what your preference is in terms of what studio you want to be in, but you won’t necessarily get your first choice. it is, however, possible to transfer studios after your sophomore year.) CAP21, the musical theatre studio, is fairly small, so not every musical theatre applicant gets put in it. some get put in acting studios, but they still take voice and dance classes. students can still audition for NYU musicals even if they’re in an acting studio instead of CAP21.

i’m probably gonna audition in november. i’m planning to apply early decision to either tisch or mt. holyoke, and i’m really sitting on the fence about which one i prefer. (they’re completely different schools.) my worry about tisch is that ppl will be too competitive. i understand that theatre is a very competitive world, but you can be competitive while still being friendly and helping your peers out. not everything has to be about cut-throat competition. anyone have any advice on this???
