Where can economics take me?

so, when you say “above” in your industry, it means you are ‘kissing ass’? What industy is this? The dumpster diving industry?

seriosly though, to the original poster, that question you are asking is a pretty sad one to see, b/c it makes me realize how little people do their researrch, which is why most of the people who cruise this site wont get a job. heres my advice: dont ask generic questions on the internet, your MUCH better off to ask that question to a professional, like your career center counler. or pick up a book, pal. VAULT guides and WET FEET PRESS books are a couple gold mines you need to readd if you want a real job. i really doubt you know what the business world is and what it takes to get a job or survive. thats ok, i can see you are new to this, its just that this place may not be the best place for most davice as most of us are not publshed career guides or proffessionals payed to advise you on things like this. talk to your career counsler, bake em cookies, know thier names and theyll help you out more than youll ever know. i got pretty good interneship hook up through one of mine.

i could vomit everything i read about the ‘business world’ to you and help you answer that question, but your career center will articulate much better than me.

good come back. see, this why i dont go to the internet for information.

you know my responses were 99% TIC, right? your advice is sound about going to a career counselor. I assume the OP was just wanting to hear what people on the college board think… not as the only source of information on the subject. He/she probably just wanted to bounce ideas, or take the chance that a person who already received a degree in economics or math would respond with their experiences… For instance, I can tell the OP that my friend’s dad got an undergrad in Economics and now is the COO of a building company. See, now the OP knows that a degree in Economics can lead somebody to that career, etc.

And yet you’re here, and have over 500 posts… ;)

Lighten up.

Unfortunately not all schools have acces to vault and wet feet, and for an individual, it is very expensive to buy. Not to mention all the other career books that go over the 6,000 plus hedge funds, brokerage houses, bond funds etc etc. Its hard to find out about everything, but if you start out general, you can eventually widdle your way down to what your really looking for. Its better than doing nothing. Perhaps your from USC, i have no clue, but not all schools have good career offices, lets say for example UCR, they are understaffed, incompetant and lack the knowledge of many of today’s competitive business industries.

Thank you to everyone who responded and I’m sorry if my question was open ended, I didn’t know. Truth is, I’m still a high school senior still trying to figure out what I want to do in life and CC is one of the resources I used to find information out. I’m just trying to see what people’s experiences are in knowing what the best paths to certain business positions are. I think I eventually want to become CEO of a company, but I don’t necessarily understand how to get there.

You dont have to major in economics or business to become the CEO of a company.

you could become the ceo of a company you start

lots of “big name” executives did not study any type of business

EXPERIENCE EXPERIENCE EXPERIENCE

know the game, and beat it

yes, everyone does have access to wet fett press and vault guides. its called a bookstore, and you can read their books without buying them. i would take the advice of a UC career office of all places over this website anyday.

Very, very, very true.

i dont know what magical bookstores you go to trojan man, but over here i have seen no bookstores with wetfeet and a few with random vault guides. Some UC offices cannot really help with certain careers, its sad but true, sometimes you must go out and get the info yourself, especially ucr

[Amazon dot freaking com, baby!](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1582074321/sr=1-2/qid=1138175108/ref=pd_bbs_2/002-5130994-3640038?_encoding=UTF8)

thats not a bookstore u can sit down and read in

Point taken.

You can find some of them at Border’s book stores (especially the larger stores), and I’d assume Barnes and Nobles.

wut is u guy’s take on NYU? (econ )

I mean how high is econ regarded in terms of job recruiting stuff relative with the top prestigiou schools?

‘i dont know what magical bookstores you go to trojan man, but over here i have seen no bookstores with wetfeet and a few with random vault guides. Some UC offices cannot really help with certain careers, its sad but true, sometimes you must go out and get the info yourself, especially ucr’

well, i dont know what magical bookstores YOU go to b/c the borders down my street has a whole library of vault and wet feet press guides that i have at one point spent hrs sifting through. i actually dont have to do that anymore b/c USC students have the privelige of getting ALL vault publications free of charge online. i went to a uc before USC, and yes their career centers are tremendously helpful with respect to the net, especialy this site. this site is after all suppose to be about college stuff, not career stuff. those who say otherwise are just ignorant or have never set foot in a career center ever.

back to the point…yes nyu has a very good econ program and has the perk of being right next to wall st. allan greenspan did his bs, masters, and phd for econ at nyu. econ is pretty highly regarded, in fact nearly all recruits are either biz or econ grads

which bookstore did you go to. I happen to live in the chino hills area, with in 10 minutes each way of 3 different borders and niether have vault or wetfeet.
