My S has tried out several times for Jeopardy but never been chosen. D told her he’s not “quirky” enough to be interesting & has to try to make himself more interesting to the selection folks (he would probably do great in most things except film type categories.

My son was admitted EA to Willamette University in Oregon with a 10,000/year scholarship renewable each year.

Unweighted GPA = 3.46
Weighted GPA = 4.02
ACT composite = 32
SAT I = 2130

Would love to see more acceptances. Junior D starting to compile a list… Finally!!

Congrats CalAlum!

Lets keep this thread alive so we can get updates.

Hi. My 3.6 UW was admitted ED to Colgate!

My son got into UT Austin for Comp Engineering!!! What a terrific surprise!!! :)

I’ve been posting this sort of thing all around, hoping that 3.0-3.6 kids will start (a) believing in themselves, and (b) aiming at the right bracket of schools. Sorry if I seem arrogant or repetitive.

I’m a 3.3 UW kid, no APs. White Tenneseean female, applying for financial aid. 29 ACT. Weak transcripts because of special needs status. Decent, unusual ECs. Excellent, candid, risky essay. Showed a lot of interest in the schools I got into and less interest in those I was rejected from.

Accepted with Merit:
Agnes Scott College - $8,000 per annum
Beloit College - $10,000 per annum
Maryville College (TN not MO) - $11,500 per annum
College of Wooster - $14,000 per annum

Accepted without Merit, Deferred, or Waitlisted:
None so far :)

Rejected:
Hendrix College
Ursinus College

Waiting on:
Earlham College
Grinnell College (not gonna happen, I know)
Guilford College
Kalamazoo College
Lawrence University

You might want to check out the positive Wooster CampusVibe visit report posted recently

Good luck

MissPickwickian–been following your posts, but I can’t remember if you’ve actually visited Agnes Scott yet. It’s about five miles from my house, and kinda fantastic. Real diversity in women, freedom to be yourself, tons of creative opportunities. What I remember about your story strikes me that it could be an excellent fit.

congrats MissPIck! you already have some great choices! REading your results makes me feel very hopeful for my D next year.

Thanks all!

No, I haven’t visited Agnes Scott, but I’ve heard almost nothing but good things. I scheduled a visit, but an ice storm hit Atlanta the day before it and I could not go. I will make another attempt soon.

Just thought I would bump this since the admissions process is almost over.

Here are my 3.4 GPA kid’s results:

REJECTED
Whitman College (ED1) - Admissions said, “Your gpa is below our applicant pool.”
Middlebury College (ED2)
Vassar College

He didn’t apply to many colleges initially, but after the two early-decision rejections, he added more. It was really hard to figure out which college was a so-called match, and which a safety.

I feel like I’ve posted everywhere! But here we go again.

Son’s stats:
SAT: 2150 (CR 790, M 690, W 670)
GPA: 97 weighted, 91 unweighted (but school counts two periods of orchestra!), it’s 87 unweighted if you removed those. Many B’s.
Rank: 6%
On the plus side 5’s on all the APs he’d taken, I think he got great recommendations and he wrote really good extra essays or sent in interesting material to the places that accepted him.

Accepted
U of Chicago (EA)
Tufts
Vassar
American (Presidential Scholar, honors program)

Rejected
Georgetown
Brown
Harvard

From Naviance the rejections were all predictable. The acceptances except for American, all looked like they could go either way. He was usually in the middle for SAT scores and bottom third for GPA in the accepted region, but with so many denied students with the same stats that we could not consider them matches.

In addition to writing great essays I think applying early helped at Chicago and being male helped at Vassar.

All Decisions are in!!!
