<p>Please see the stickies at the top of the “pre-med topics” section, but generally they need to be ECs that demonstrate you not only understand what a career as a physician is about (e.g. shadowing, volunteering in a clinical setting, clinical research) but also ones that demonstrate you have qualities one looks for in a physician (dedication, perseverance, thirst for knowledge, ability to educate others, leadership, ability to work in groups, etc).</p>
<p>FWIW, my MD/PhD program along with several others (and several medical schools) say music and athletics are ECs that get particular interest but this is usually only when done at a relatively high level (e.g. club/preferably varsity level athletics, being part of a musical performance group)</p>
