Where does your college student vote?

My d registered in PA where she goes to college. Her vote will make a difference there.

Her Dad lives in Virginia - where she is in school and I am in Maryland. She is just as likely to stay in Virginia upon graduation since both sets of grandparents are there and many other relatives.

Wisconsin has an open primary and registering to vote has nothing to do with political parties. Last winter (Feb primary) tons of students registered to vote around the UW campus- they even had polling places in some of the dorms. Son registered to vote as an 18 year old there and now has an apt, so I presume he’ll vote there. Once away to college students often don’t care about hometown local politics.

D attends college in Illinois but will vote absentee, since her vote will probably make more of a difference in her home state. She and her friends actually thought long and hard about where to vote.

I asked my daughter if she wanted to appeal the decision that she couldn’t register using her college address. She was concerned because there was language on the notice that she could be fined for voting with a fraudulent address. Even though she knows what she did is not fraud, just that language was enough to scare her off a bit. It would have emboldened me but I feel it is her decision whether to fight it or not.

Both daughters registered to vote in their respective college states, Ohio and Pa. where their votes will make more of a difference.

My daughter’s school’s fall break always coincides with election weekend and lasts through Tuesday, so she will come home and vote here.

Just last night D called and happened to mention she registered to vote in her college state (NC). Said she did it because she wants to vote in person. H & I were annoyed because she doesn’t “live” in that state, and knows absolutely nothing about any of the state and local issues. I was going to bring her an absentee ballot application when we see her in 2 weeks for Family Weekend. She had registered in her home state (CT) when she turned 18. How does this actually work? Does NC let CT know she changed her registration?

My s had to fax in a request for an absentee ballot, which is supposedly mailed home and then we hve to mailit to him. Inconvenient, but better than nothing.

Daughters will vote absentee - or would lose their Alaska PFD’s ( which - thanks Sarah:) ) is an extra $1200!!!
D’s GO TO SCHOOLs in another state/country. They maintain Alaska residency .

Voting in Mass this year. At least she won’t cancel out my Texas vote :)

Both my sons will have to register absentee this year. I reminded them to register to vote in the first place, but since they are both voting for “the other” candidate this year, they will have to get it done on their own this time, with no reminders.

:-)

D is voting in CT and S is voting in Michigan. These “young folk” could make a big difference in this election.
