Where else should she apply?

I think PAFA has a relationship/degree program with UPenn. They are also housed in a beautiful old Frank Furness building, one of the few left standing. U of the Arts also has a Furness building which is one of their dorms.

Just wanted to state for the record that RISD does give merit-based aid, although they are pretty stingy. All domestic applicants are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships.

I’m pretty sure about this because I’m currently a sophomore at RISD and I get good merit-based aid every year. I also did not participate in any national art competition in high school.

I saw you mention something about Hollins earlier in the thread.

The school has great dorms and the food is pretty good. Meals are included with the price of dorms (I’m fairly certain, at least). I know nothing about the art program, though.

Thanks shewas. I think she is going to drop Hollins from the list, now that portfolio acceptances have started to roll in from her top choices.

Switters, Cooper was really interesting, except we had the MOST bored-looking and acting tour guide I have ever encountered! She has started to apply, since they were encouraging, though non-committal about her more traditionally oriented work. We are starting to feel excited, but mostly RELIEVED. The worst appears to be over. Whew!

If anyone is still out there, it’s decision time. Any one know anything about Moore College of Art? BIG scholarship. Very nice award from Tyler/Temple also, which is cheaper and has great rep for MFA painting, though she is a BFA candidate. Some money from SAIC. Still waiting for MICA. NO $$ from WUSTL or CMU, which are way expensive. Help?

I will throw one out there, just to look in to. It does not match the dorms, meal plan, lots of students part though. =</p>

College of Visual Arts in St. Paul Minnesota is where I really wanted to go. The foundations year was a big part of it. Students are required to try out the different majors before declaring one (I was indecisive so I really liked that) while taking studio drawing courses.
The college is smaller though, with about 250 undergraduate students. The only reason I couldn’t go was because of the cost, although I did get $20,000 (over 4 years) in scholarships through the school.

Not a lot of people talk about CVA, not even in Minnesota (what with MCAD and AI nearby) but it was definitely a good fit for me.

EDIT: Oops, didn’t notice this was an older thread. Oh well. XD

Daughter accepted everywhere. GOOD scholarship offers… Decided on Tyler, so that academics and university are at her front door. Happy with her choice, and the fact that she had choice! Thanks to all who posted!
