Where graduates move after college

We live in the DC area. S1 went to school in Chicago, moved to SV. He talks occasionally of transferring, but he has a a social life that means a lot to him, so I don’t know if that will happen. It wouldn’t be to DC, anyway.

S2 went to college in Boston, came home for 2.5 years, and is now working in Eastern Europe. Expects to be there for a couple of years. The jobs he wants are in DC, so he’ll either wind up back here or remain overseas is my guess.

I also moved far from family after I finished school. I had no fear of doing so because we were a military family who moved every couple of years anyway. I was always the independent one!

Looks like we’re all from the DC area! My s went to school in upstate NY, had enough of the winters and has a job outside DC, but lives a little over an hour from us. I am meeting him tonight for dinner between us.

My d went south for school. She’s considering Atlanta after she graduates, but is quite homesick for here as well, so we shall see. I think she’ll go wherever she gets a job.

After college, S spent 4 years in school 2000 miles away. His goal was, in part, to return home (So Cal) upon graduating. He succeeded, lives less than an hour away with his W and our new granddaughter. We couldn’t be happier.

My children grew up in New England—one child went to school in the Boston area and the other went to school in the Philadelphia area. Right after graduation, both stayed and got jobs in the cities where they went to college. After four years, my oldest went to DC for graduate school and then moved with her husband to Chapel Hill, where he is working on a doctorate. Youngest started grad school in Providence last year.

D1 went to school in NYC and stayed there for a year after to work. She then returned home to San Diego (La Jolla) and got her teaching credential and is now working close to where she grew up. D2 went to school in NYC, but didn’t like it and transferred back to a school close to home. She has the distinction of being able to see the Pacific Ocean from her elementary, middle, high school and university. She is also working close to home and her company just moved to a new location so that D2 has a view of San Diego Bay. She feels very fortunate!

We’re from the DC area, but somehow one of my grown kids now lives in Colorado and the other lives in California. Oh, well.
