I I will try but also I have a car
What if I just get my bachelors from WGU then go on to get my masters at Pitt or Ducane? I should save money getting the rest of my bachelors through WGU. Then when I graduate I would qualify to for graduate student loan.
Do you think I will be okay with getting my bachelors from WGU then going on to get my masters from Pitt or Duquense ?
I think you’d be way better off getting a BA at a brick and mortar school and then figure out grad school when the time for that comes.
Focus on getting your bachelor’s for now. You cannot just keep racking up loans. You say you want to earn a good salary and have enough money. Paying back a big loan balance for 10 years will limit your available income.
We tried to give you ideas to research for affordable options, find out what your realistically affordable choices are, and go from there. In the city there are Point Park, Chatham and Carlow. I don’t know if they have your major or what kind of aid they provide. They are closer to RMU than WVU or Cal U.
The goal is to attend a school where you can get your bachelor’s degree with the least amount of loans.
Maybe you guys can get an apartment halfway between Moon PA and Pittsburgh, along a bus route that would be convenient for you.
Parking in Pittsburgh can be expensive. Save your money for food and rent.
La Roche college is also supposed to be pretty close to RMU. Reasearch financial aid there as well.
WVU offers an online degree and it take two years to complete. It’s called Chikd Development and Family studies I could do that as well.
A degree from a legit brick and mortar school (such as CalU, Chatham, LaRoche, perhaps Pitt Greensburg which is cheaper than Pitt Main?.. all in all PASSHE and small private schools may be your best options?) would look better than from WGU, even though WGU is legit. People in Western PA know area colleges, have contacts there, etc.
Also, would this be for FAll 2018? Or Fall 2017?
Because if for Fall 2017, (they typically charge you between the end of July and early August and if you don’t pay, you’re stuck and can’t attend any other college), so you need to withdraw from RMU NOW and see if there’s even a spot at any other university.
I was credentialed in California through WGU. Their students are eligible to be credentialed in most states, and they generally seem to understand each state’s particular requirements. The classwork is online, but there is both a set of observations before student teaching, then student teaching, which are completed in schools, with mentor teachers and faculty observations. It costs around $6000/year and you can start on the first day of any month.
I believe you can get credentialed by completing your Bachelor’s only. I already had a BS, so I completed only a Post-Baccalaureate program and ended up credentialed in about a year. One thing to be careful of is what classes they transfer in, as I have heard they are not especially generous in awarding credits. This means it may take you several years to complete the program. Also, transferring credits out (to another school) is nearly impossible because of their competency-based grading system, so you need to be very committed to the program.
It was a great program for me, and I went back for my Masters after teaching for several years, but do think it through and make a careful decision. I’m happy to answer any questions you might have.
