Today I donated to the food bank in my former hometown, to the Planned Parenthood branch there, to public television at my new address, and to wikipedia because I use it all the time (also as a librarian/information professional I hugely appreciate all the work that goes into provide that service).
Our town has a Neighbor to Neighbor fund that we donate to…but we donate in January when they are receiving far less in donations than during the holiday season.
We also donate to four colleges, but the timing of those donations needs to align with the academic needs of the designated department recipients. So…those will be done in April.
I donated to a local non-profit founded by the moms of a baby who died unexpectedly after a short NICU stay. The program helps to support NICU families outside of what the hospital can provide. I’ve worked with the moms and they are gems.
Usually same every year:
Local Kids Food Basket
Local community Action House for homeless services
Local school education foundation and athletic boosters
Local school nurse fund through local hospital
Professional foundations at local and state level
Local hospice in memory of dear friend’s mom
Scholarship endowed by me given to 3 students in my profession
Scholarship fund for college classmate
Meals on Wheels also delivers to disabled people. My son got their meals for awhile.
