Where to stay near Times Square

Will you please tell me how the TKTS works? Do you have to stand 2 hours in line to find out if you get tickets or not? It might have been extreme, but just wondering how it worked. Of all the shows you saw, which do you think a 22 ans 19 year old young adults would enjoy the best? I’m in the process of putting my days together now…so hard when there is do much to do.

I buy tickets a week in advance through Todaytix. No line waiting. My d lives in NY and recommended the site. Probably not as cheap as TKTS - but you can plan ahead and not waste time standing in line at the booths.

When we go to NYC we go to the TKTs booth in Southstreet Seaport (which opens at 11AM vs the one in Time Square which opens at 3pm). We usually get there around when it opens and the wait is usually about 20 minutes. There are theatre students outside explaining the various shows and giving suggestions. You can buy tickets for an evening show that night or for a matinee the next day. You can look on the website (or get the App) to see which shows likely will be available. Seaport Village is right next to the Brooklyn Bridge which is a fun walk in good weather. https://www.tdf.org/nyc/7/TKTS

Thanks for both the posts…will take a look!

At the TKTS booth in the theater district, there is a large electronic sign showing what shows have availability, and what the discount will be. Make sure you have several backup choices, because there might not be seats together, or the seats might be obstructed view. You can pay with a credit card. There is a separate, much shorter, line for plays (that is, shows that are not musicals)–ask one of the workers where it is if you don’t see it. If you can manage to go on a weekday, you will have more choices.

If it is something that you don’t want to take a chance and stand on line, you can go to Todaytx or Theater Mania. It may cost more, but you can have a sure reservation to fit into your schedule.

I just think it would be nice to see a musical. The boys have never been, and it would be a treat for us, too. I don’t want to spend tons, but I think they would like Chicago. They haven’t seen the movie…I loved it.

We saw Something Rotten! in September and loved it.
