@nottelling I know several surfers as well and you are right about wanting access to waves. Interestingly, some live and work in NYC, someplace many don’t associate with surfing but Rockaway gets good waves. It’s fun to see people taking the subway with their surfboards.

So, where would you recommend a young person look to start a new career? What area provides an affordable cost of living combined with a decent job market? Where a student with a good work ethic has a chance to land a decent entry level job? Bonus points for having some access to culture and other entertainment that appeals to someone in their 20s. Let’s assume for an individual who is not focused on a Silicon Valley type tech job or a political wonk trying to make a splash in Washington, DC., or other areas gravitated to by jobseekers within a very specific industry.
Lots more jobs and career paths (besides computing and politics) have regional concentrations.
Sometimes, a new graduate may not have much of a location choice for a career-track job (as noted in the location versus job thread).
