Which college to choose with the goal of transferring out after first year?

Prestige is an emotion that has no rational or financial basis to justify it’s existence. As more and more people apply to schools, the elite schools have been more and more stagnant with their capacity. This actually looks good for them because they can “choose” the “best” and “brightest.” This leads to grant research money. In reality, they’re getting paid for doing literally nothing.

You’ve been accepted into some great schools. There’s no need to spend money and lose expensive credits for the sake of prestige.

This is a realistic way to think about your first year if you want to go to a higher ranked school. If you go to any of these choices just make sure you have a super high GPA and lots of meaningful extra curriculars. Oh and I would advise to get good recs from people at the university and not high school to show the impact you’ve made on the school. I go to a school now where Id say about half transfer after freshman year and its a completely realistic mindset (as long as youre not shooting for ivies)

USNH and Plymouth St type schools are perfectly good schools. But they just aren’t on the university of Rochester level. UR is as good or better in real life results than your transfer dream. And it is someone’s dream school. If you want to transfer that’s your right and privilege. Please don’t choose UR you will be wasting a valuable spot for a committed student. Character in life goes further than parchment.
