<p>Clearly, there are valid arguments for and against remaining in the same company after plebe summer, but one issue is that the new plebes/cadets are such a diverse group. Incoming plebes/cadets run the gamut, 17 year-old high school grads from non-military families to 22 year-old combat veterans with Purple Hearts and Bronze Stars. At Navy I’ve observed a deliberate pairing-up of priors/NAPStrs with newbies in plebe summer company/roommate assignments. That makes sense. However, it also makes sense that plebes/cadets change companies at the beginning of the academic year because at that point everyone should be up to speed with the basic professional knowledge, and as others have mentioned, plebes would get to know a wider range of their classmates and any “plebe summer issues” would be water under the bridge.
