Which is better: AP Bio or MV calc?

@NavalTradition Good point. And wouldn’t having taken AB in junior year and BC and senior allow me to have a much better Calculus foundation, and make BC easier?

I would think so. And if you decide to take engineering math in college, you’ll have a solid foundation to work on.

I agree. Calc AB junior year, BC senior year, with a strong AB foundation, sounds better and will NOT be a problem for admission (at all). But what about you make the decision in February, when, presumably, you register? At that point you’ll have a good idea of whether you can try and self teach the really hard calc parts (that are in BC) or not.

With only a high enough AB AP score plus a non-transferable high school multivariable calculus course, you would still have to start in calculus 2 in college, just like having only a high enough AB AP score (best to check the college’s old calculus 1 final exams, though).

A college multivariable calculus course would generally list calculus 2, or a high enough BC AP score, as a prerequisite.

Harvard allows the students to take whatever math class they want including upper division math as a freshman. I think most Ivies are the same. The only school that I know that is very restrictive is UChicago

Many schools will give you a math placement test.
