<p>I would go for the research one for sure. Paid research positions are not that easy to come by, and to have one in the medical field where they are likely to let you do some ‘real work’ (not just bottle washing) is an excellent opportunity. You are lucky you live in the area (my D has been looking for something similar, but there is nothing in our state 
). I think it would do more for your college application.</p>
