<p>I don’t mean to disrespect UCLA as I think it’s a great school. But I work for a company that has headquarters in Manila and Bangkok. And in those countries, I know for a fact that a Berkeley degree carries a more significant weight than a UCLA degree does. In those countries Berkeley is often considered top 5, maybe even considered more prestigious than schools like Chicago, NW, JHU, Cornell, Penn or Columbia. In the Philippines and Thailand, a Berkeley degree would lead you a long, long way. I understand it’s not quite like it in California. But the kid is from the Philippines and he’s going to work or settle in that country someday. I thought it was something that he should have considered strongly before he made up his decision.</p>
