An 1140 SAT is a ~23 ACT, and a 2.5 GPA is equivalent to about an 80. Those are low for Stony Brook. Their middle 50% ACT is 26-31 and their GPA range is 90-96. You might want to try Purchase, Plattsburgh, Fredonia, or Oneonta.
Are you a senior? SUNYs cost ~$20-22k/year to dorm. If you’re a low income NYS resident, you’ll likely qualify for a federal Pell grant (up to ~$5k/year), a NYS TAP (tuition) grant (up to ~$5k/year), and the federal student loan (~$5500/year). Even with all of those you’d still be ~$5-7k short unless you work every summer. Even then it will be a stretch. Is there a college you can commute to that you can use as a financial safety?
