<p>Notrichenough - I agree that everyone should pay something. The problem is that the poor pay a higher percentage of their income in other taxes than the wealthy - they’ve got more “skin in the game” there than the rest of us. Now, if we eliminated all other taxes and raised all government revenue through a single income tax a flat tax might work. Of course, it’s have to be about 24% or so…</p>
<p>I guess that’s my issue with focusing exclusively on income tax. It’s the only non-regressive tax out there, so it has a lot of work to do just to level the playing field.</p>
