which women sports are the least difficult to earn a scholarship to a Div 1 school?

Ivy schools offer no athletic scholarships, so it doesn’t matter if they host squash or not. No scholarships. The Ivies CAN give athletic scholarship, but then they’d have to follow the NCAA rules about them and those schools have an agreement with the NCAA and among themselves not to give any athletic scholarships and then they don’t have to stay withing the limits. The Ivies have an agreement on how many spots will be given to athletes, what their academic stats have to be, etc.

Men’s crew is also not an NCAA sport. It is their (the rowing clubs’) choice not to be an NCAA sport (women’s crew is). Some schools have scholarships for men’s crew, some clubs give scholarships, some schools follow NCAA rules for recruiting. Cheerleading is also not an NCAA sport but there are some scholarships given by the athletic departments or sponsors like Nike. Some sports, like men’s crew, like to retain control over their competitions. Squash may be like that and not want to give up control to the NCAA.

? Ivies can give scholarships for athletics. that’s news to me… I always knew they got cushy watch the grass grow “jobs” but never have I heard of anything remotely resembling actual scholarships.

Ivy schools do not give scholarships. There are also no ‘cushy watch the grass grow’ jobs unless they are work study and open to all applicants.

One caveat on some sports. The stats on scholarshipstats.com are based on # of varsity HS participants vs. college rosters, which can be misleading. For example, most high schools don’t have a fencing team and most competitive HS fencers are part of clubs in their area, not varsity teams, so the percentage numbers are really skewed. I expect that the same is true in some of the other high percentage sports (women’s hockey, crew, etc.)
