Calls are being made for the Fall session…

How do you know that calls are being made for the fall session?

Because they called with questions, not a decision…

What type of questions did they ask you?

What office called you?

Also… what day and have you gotten vitals or anything yet?

Hey fall folks --

A few things to keep in mind that will make your wait easier…things I wish I had known during my application process.

Summer applicants were still hearing all kinds of decisions last week (two whole months after the rolling notification start date), as evidenced by recent posts on this board (see p. 253). That is to say, you should not bet on hearing on the rolling notification start date. This summer, it seems some people heard before that date, but it doesn’t seem to have been good news in those cases (see p. 233).

Not all applicants get the “vitals” email. I have two friends who were accepted to the program (one for this summer, one for last spring) who NEVER received a vitals email. On the other hand, various accepted, wait-listed, and rejected applicants seem to get this email. A vitals email doesn’t seem to indicate which way things are going to go for you. Don’t read too much into it, in other words…and don’t read too much into the “Application Processing” emails, either. Both the “APEs” and the “vitals” emails mean one thing, no more, no less: you’re still in the running.

Just as a vitals isn’t a guarantee one way or the other, neither is getting an interview. If you do your best during the interview, you have a good shot, but remember a given office could be interviewing many candidates. There are many examples on this board in which interviewed candidates are accepted, wait-listed, or rejected out-right.

Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. Earlier on this board, during the early discussion of the “Departmental Review” email, someone posted about language on an attached form suggesting that they had been conditionally accepted as an intern…yet some of the people who received this email and the same forms ended up wait-listed (see p. 243; 252). You should absolutely feel happy if you reach this stage, because it means you have made it to what seems to be the last step in the process…but hold off on celebrating, in case the final word is not what you want to hear.

The application process seems to change literally every application period…one session will feature one set of paperwork; the next will hold off on the same paperwork, etc. Trying to make sense of the process can make things worse. Do what you can to keep yourself distracted: throw yourself into school work, watch movies and read books, find new hobbies, go work out, hang out with friends. Just remember, you WILL hear. It will just take longer than you would usually imagine.

The process truly is rolling. Decisions sometimes seem to go out all at once to a lot of people, but just because three or four people have already been accepted and you’re still waiting doesn’t necessarily mean anything for your application.

If you do not get an offer this time around, try again! During the spring session, there was a girl posting and it was her second or third time applying…she got it! Eyes on the prize. Stay positive! Stay hopeful! You’ve got this :)

Good luck everyone!

So is it possible to get an acceptance letter early on in the process, like this month or early May? Or does it mean that if any applicant will be accepted, it won’t be now, but in a month or two?

Best advice I received was to forget about it until you’re contacted, that way you don’t drive yourself crazy.

Denver is spot on. Easier said than done, but putting it out of your mind is the best strategy.

They are looking at a specific job in a department that I can’t comment on.

No vitals. It was the day that I posted. Mid day. Unknown number. They had called the day before as well but I missed the call.

I just got an e-mail and I have a phone interview tomorrow … Does anyone know what it is like? What kind of questions do they ask?

Seltaire,

Just be yourself, you’ll do great!

Good Luck! Me too!

Congrats you guys!

Has anyone else received any communication from the program aside from seltaire and live4me?

Hey folks, I’ve followed this board for awhile and finally decided to join. I received an email yesterday, requesting a phone interview today. I think it went well and was told they will contact me soon. Guess the waiting game begins!

Good luck to all who have applied for Fall 2012!

Congrats!

I didn’t get any emails, incredibly depressing day haha. Did you get a vitals email or anything before that?

All I received prior to this week was an “Application Submission” email at the beginning of April.

Every Dept has their own timeline, so don’t fret if you haven’t heard anything yet. There seemed to be three waves of interviews/acceptances for
the summer. I was in the middle round of both.
