Who here has not gotten COVID? Who has long COVID?

Just an FYI, please no politically-oriented posts.

The big question is will the new version be made available before this happens. Not a single pharmacy by me will schedule appointments right now while they wait for the new vaccine.

its a grey area. The FDA Act requires that approved drugs and medical devices be both safe and effective. And to show both of those requires double blind studies as the gold standard. (one reason why stuff takes so long for US approval.).

The covid vax was originally approved under an Emergency Authorization. At what point does the Emergency end and we go back to following the gold standard for scientific research as per the law? (Didn’t RFK tell Moderna a few months ago that they need to start considering larger study sizes?)

Now fully FDA approved for many people:

correct, for the 2024/25 ver. No guarantee that they’ll accept the mod for 2025/26, this fall’s planned vax (which is where supply would be affected)

My understanding was that Novavax did not change their formulation and would not need new approval.

I hope that is true, as novavax is what I have gotten last 2 updates. That said, if approval has already been given, I’m not sure about the pov of the ā€˜article’ in the Daily Beast posted above.

Approval can be withdrawn.

But note that Novavax’ Nuvaxovid:

  • is not an mRNA vaccine.
  • is not fully approved for as wide a range of patients as Pfizer’s Comirnaty or Moderna’s Spikevax.

Did you try the grocery store pharmacies? That’s where we got ours last week. Our D did also, and she is in a different city with different grocery store chain. I do know that the chain retailers are not scheduling. Another suggestion we read was to try independent pharmacies.

Argh. Went to a picnic party on Saturday and we just got a message that one person tested positive for COVID on Sunday. Not much to do…except…wait and see, I guess.

I checked with my local pharmacy and grocery stores. None have covid vaccines available. All have flu shots available

You should be o.k. if you were outside most of the time.

I called internist’s office and asked how H (who is receiving radiation) and I either bad lung co duration) can get covid boosters. They’re checking and will call me back.

I asked at the Safeway pharmacy about 2 weeks ago and they said mid-Sept for covid (the new formula) shot, that I should wait until Oct for flu shot, and that I should get the pneumonia shot now (but I haven’t rushed to do that).

I’m not that worried as I had a covid shot in the spring (I’m supposed to get them every 6 months because I’m old) and I’m sure I still have some protection, but I’d like the new formula.

This is the notification on my CVS app. I plan (hope) to get both Covid and flu shots in the late fall to prepare for our NZ/Oz trip next February.

If I had COVID in January, am I still somewhat protected for the time being?

My head is spinning with all this information not being presented in a clear manner, by actual researchers and doctors.

Likely your antibody / T-cell / etc. levels have settled to the ā€œnormalā€ level after about 6 months (but if you never had COVID-19 before, your new ā€œnormalā€ level is likely higher than before). Also, the current variants are not that much different from the January 2025 ones, so immune response is likely better than if current variants were from a more different branch of the virus family tree.

My last Covid shot was September 2024 and have never had it to my knowledge. I have a pretty good immune system (never caught the flu, knock on wood). It’s possible I’ve encountered Covid and it was fought off without me noticing symptoms. But I do want to be freshly protected for international group travel.

My last covid booster was late April. We called internist to try to get new boosters and were told to call pharmacies, who currently do NOT have any covid boosters in stock. Will see about Safeway pharmacy but I’m not optimistic.

I asked my BCBS insurer when I had finished talking with them about a billing issue. They called the toll-free immunization line and got me this answer:

Safeway and WalMart have COVID booster available (the old formulation made for 2024). If you want another pharmacy to get it (say CVS or Walgreens), you have to ask the pharmacy to order it and make an appointment to get it. I have no information about availability at Kaiser, but suspect it may also be difficult to get there.

The updated vaccines are approved but for limited groups. They may be more difficult for those of us under 65 to get and insurance may refuse to pay for them
