Who here has not gotten COVID? Who has long COVID?

I got mNEXSPIKE at a Costco in Washington State today. They referred to it as the 65 plus version but I think it’s approved for 12+. I liked the idea that it may offer slightly better resistance and slightly fewer side effects. So far my arm isn’t even sore! This marks 3 states that I have gotten Covid vaccines in due to different regulations and timing!

We are >65 and both got MNexSpike at local CVS too. I don’t think you can go wrong—just get something!

Probably, unless you are a rare person who has never had either infection or vaccine for COVID-19, or someone with a medical contraindication against Moderna vaccine ingredients or formulations. Those who have never had either infection or vaccine may benefit more from other vaccines against the entire spike protein rather than just the part that mutates often that mNEXSPIKE targets.

mNEXSPIKE was only available for people over 65 at our CVS.

An OB can be a PCP - pediatrician, internist, general medicine, OB…

Yes, whatever doc you have who agrees to and is available can be your primary. Some of H’s friends have a pulmonologist as their primary because they were in Jaycee’s together decades ago. They don’t have lung problems but pulmonologists also have to go through pediatrics or internal medicine residencies.

Up until my allergist retired in 2016, she served as primary for me and my kids. She was very sharp and cared a lot.

Heck, my niece who is a podiatrist is a primary care provider for sone of her patients as they see her more than any other doctor.

I reach out to whichever doctor I feel is most likely to respond to any particular issue—I have 2 lung docs with APRN and an internist and her APRN. Between them I can usually get a response from one of them, particularly if I’m having an urgent health issue.

We went to get our Covid shots today. We had appointments at CVS. Well we got there and they had no shots because someone left the refrigerator door ajar. It would have been nice if they had let us know ahead of time. This is the second time I’ve had an appointment with CVS and they were out of the shot. They should have a system that lets you know if they run out.

Boo! I’ve had that happen a while back when it was tough tracking down who in our state actually had the covid booster and folks were frantically trying to get ahold of shots. They’d let you make an appointment and it was on YOU, the patient to call and confirm that yes they actually had the vaccine in stock! That made no sense and got me very annoyed. My sister and BIL went to a clinic about 1 hour from their home where theirs is a lot of vaccine reluctance and had no problems getting their shot. I called the Walgreens about 15 minutes from our home and they confirmed they had the vaccine and would give it to us.

@mathmom, I hope you guys are able to track down a vaccine before 9/18 when who knows what will happen at that CDC meeting.

My kids in NYC are not able to get shots even with the Governor’s executive order. Both CVS and Walgreens have vaccines available, but they want certification you are eligible for vaccine under the Federal guideline.

My daughter’s state requires a doctor’s prescription. I’m hoping her company will do a vaccine event like they’ve done in the past and she can get it there.

My son in law works at a school and they are giving it to all employees.

The problem is even if you get a prescription there is no guarantee that the insurance would pay for it.
It’s a mess.

Over 65, had no trouble getting the updated Moderna vax yesterday. I scheduled at Walgreens online Monday to get a covid (and a flu) vax the next day.

I live in a prescription required state.

When I took my GS to the pediatrician Monday for his annual check-up, he got a flu vax, but the practice didn’t yet have a supply of children’s covid vaccines. A lot of people must have been asking because the doctor said they would announce it on the practice’s website when the vaccine becomes available. Pediatrician said when available we could schedule a vax without paying for another doctor’s visit. GS has no qualifying conditions under the CDC guidelines.

D said she’ll pay OOP if necessary for covid vaccinations for the entire family because as a front line emergency healthcare provider during covid she watched way, way too many people die.

Which Moderna vaccine, mNEXSPIKE or Spikevax?

Remind me what’s happening on Sept. 18 that might effect vaccine availability.

the revised ACIP is scheduled to meet on the 18th & 19th to review vaccines, even COVID. The 16 states that now require a prescription per state law, follow the recs of ACIP. So if ACIP recs covid vaccines, insurance will cover them in those 16 states, and the shots will be available at pharmacies. Of course, ACIP could always decline to rec covid vaccines as some of the new Committee members are vax-skeptical.

I thought Hochul fixed it for New Yorkers?

I just spoke with someone from CVS. They said they just updated their guidelines. People can get the vaccine now and it’s covered by insurance.

My BFF who was visiting left here on Saturday. She just texted me that she has COVID. She thinks she got it on the plane going home, but I guess I should be careful. This is the THIRD time she’s gotten it after visiting me! The first time we were in very close contact (riding in a Miata, sharing a bed in a B&B, etc.) and I didn’t get it. She has gotten all the vaccinations.

Unless she was seated on the plane near someone actively coughing and sneezing, much more likely than not she got it at the airport, while walking through the crowds, using the airport bathroom, etc.

spikevax 12 + iCovid

Or, at least that’s how listed on my information form. The Walgreens website just said Moderna

I’m like your friend. I have my boosters, but I’ve gotten Covid more times than the people I am in close contact with. Some of us are genetically unlucky, it seems … but at least the boosters keep us from being sicker than we could be. I hope you don’t get sick!
