Who here has not gotten COVID? Who has long COVID?

@OhiBro I tend to let fevers run and don’t use NSAIS or tylenol very often. However my recent bout of COVID taught me something. When my temperature hit 101+ (one reading was 103) my heart rate and blood pressure went up and I was also severely dehydrated. I started having some heart arrythmias as well, probably due to the higher heart rate. I landed in the hospital, briefly. Next time I am that sick, I will take tylenol or advil if my fever is over 100. Hope that helps.

Certainly you should follow your doctors advice but there is no strong evidence that NSAIDs like Advil worsen COVID or affect vaccine.

My daughter (33 yo, type 1 diabetes, other stuff) did Paxlovid starting last Tuesday so today is day 9. She finished Paxlovid Sat. night. She is still testing slightly positive and is alone, getting antsy.

What range have you all found for number of days from diagnosis to testing negative, especially after Paxlovid? This doesn’t seem to be rebound since she never tested negative.

Insulin pump basal rates are still set at a high rate. If her immune system stops fighting the virus, blood sugars should go down and all the pump rates will have to be adjusted to avoid lows. So a ballpark idea would be helpful but so would reports of very varied timelines!

For me, it was not until day 13 from the suspected start of (minor) symptoms that I tested negative (though I only got suspicious enough to start testing on day 4, and symptoms were gone by day 6 or 7). I had none of the usual pre-existing increased risk conditions and did not use Paxlovid or other drugs, and had three prior ancestral virus vaccine doses (last one about four months prior). Variant was likely BA.5.

For our family in mid-july, some of us tested negative 1 day or two after completing Paxlovid while others didn’t test negative until 2 weeks after start of symptoms. It varied and there didn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason. Fortunately we all felt we had mild cases and none of us had to see an MD and none of us had any bad reaction to Paxlovid.

H tested positive on Christmas morning, because his nose suddenly started running. He honestly had no idea he had Covid. For several days beforehand, his scalp was extremely tender to the touch. After testing positive, he did some Googling and discovered that a tender scalp is a relatively rare (but real) sign of Covid. He was tired on Christmas & yesterday, and he feels fine now. We can’t help but wonder if he was positive in the days leading up to Christmas. So far, no one who was with him in those days is positive. What a weird virus.

This time (November of this year) I tested positive very quickly after symptoms began. Started Paxlovid later that day and I think I tested negative on day 6. The first time on Mother’s Day 2022 so likely Omicron, I probably had it a couple of days before I tested, got Paxlovid the next day and symptoms almost gone 5 days later. I still had a faint line on day 8, no line at all on day 9.

JN.1 is a descendant of BA.2.86, which is a somewhat different line of ancestry from XBB (XBB.1.5 is the latest vaccine target), though their common ancestor was BA.2.

Heard from a family which had multiple members test positive for COVID-19. Probable time (backdated to first symptoms) to negative test varied from 5 days to >10 days.

My daughter did Paxlovid and today is day 10. Test was positive with stronger line and some congestion. She has not tested negative yet. We were wondering if this is some kind of rebound despite the lack of negative test. She has type 1 diabetes and is still on maximum basal rate.

She was going to visit for Christmas, then for New Year’s. We decided there was less anxiety in cancelling that too and trying to have a visit in mid-January. She is getting antsy! She is a composer and at least is getting some work done on a commission!

I think it’s prudent to be fully recovered and at 100% health before attempting to travel. Travel is arduous and there are always germs circulating in enclosed spaces. I’m sorry it’s taking her a bit of time to clear the virus, but each person is different. H and D each took about 2+ weeks before they were clear while S & I only took about a week apiece. My older sister also took about 2 weeks before she tested negative. All 5 of us took Paxlovid.

She isn’t traveling publicly. I am picking her up. Five hours away. When it is safe.

She is anxious because mono caused brain inflammation that crossed her eyes (possibly due to a previous brain injury) and she got dizzy for weeks after one of the COVID vaccines. In other words, her body does unusual things. We’ll see! I think she will be fine in a few days. I just want her to feel that way.

We didn’t do Paxlovid, but I started having symptoms a day or two after DH. Didn’t test positive until about 3 days after symptoms and felt pretty sick for about a week. Then felt better but was still testing positive. I tested positive about 12 days, about 2 weeks after the first symptoms, but I wasn’t testing positive with those first symptoms.

H is still testing positive after his initial positive on Christmas. In retrospect, he had vague symptoms a few days before. He no longer has any symptoms, just a positive test.

The issue with my daughter is that she is so much sicker. It is day 11. I think Paxlovid just never eliminated the virus and it is replicating now. I wish she could get more Paxlovid. It’s tough with diabetes and neuro issues.

That is the experience I had. I wished I could’ve had Paxlovid for another week! I felt pretty bad for about a week after I finished the Paxlovid, and then mildly bad for another week after that. I also had weird heart issues for several weeks, maybe two months?

Fyi Pfizer is running clinical trials to test longer duration for Paxlovid. There are a few locations enrolling participants. I looked into it because I also rebounded with Paxlovid, and would have liked a longer course.

I told my daughter about those studies. She called her diabetes doc and they don’t give extra but are monitoring her.

@MAmomto4 sorry you had that experience but it helps to hear about someone else and I will pass it on to her!

I only did two days of Paxlovid and landed in hospital with some heart arrythmias. Mine are fine now and hope yours are too!

We happened to have an extra 4 days doses of Paxlovid because I was unable to keep my 1st 2 doses down due to nausea. We gave H the unused extra 4 days and it really seemed to help him—he took 9 days of Paxlovid all together. We did let his MD know what we were doing and she didn’t object.

My doses of Paxlovid were all only 2 pills while all the others in our household took 3 pills per dose. I guess my docs are nervous about me since I tend to have side effects. Hehe!
