Most cases are relatively mild, although a few people have reported being very ill. It sounds more like a major cold than a minor one. Long covid rates have dropped, thankfully, but still not zero.
I am not sure why everyone that has reported it tested. Some did because they were with someone that found out they had it. I know my sister did because her husband tested positive. I also think with the holidays, people that had symptoms tested to avoid infecting others.
We were asked to test for one party, which was fine. But even if negative for COVID, one could be brewing the flu or RSV.
We have young grandchildren who arenât vaxâd (for Covid, flu or RSV) and an adult family member whoâs immunocompromised and hopes to visit this quarter. Iâve had various cold symptoms off and on since early November. The week of Christmas was my only symptom-free week.
Itâs not as bad now as it was originally, but I tested again. None of the tests were positive. I still skipped Thanksgiving with the GDs since I was at my worst then. Itâs most likely that they, or their parents, were the source of whatever Iâve had since I have not been anywhere else.
D and fiance had Covid for the first known time a couple weeks before Christmas. Had all boosters the latest in October 2023. D got it first and tested because while she thought she had a cold it started getting pretty intense. Her fiance tested positive 2 days behind her. They are in their mid 30âs and healthy. Both got hit pretty hard for about 48 hours once they tested positive - canât get out of bed tired/achy/congested. They would call it much worse than a cold. You can usually function with a cold.
Yeah, when I had covid in mid-July, it was very difficult to get myself out of bed. I only did so to try to drink a little water and take Paxlovid. Had to start soda crackers too to ease the nausea to keep Paxlovid down. Afterafew days of Paxlovid I was much better and it never went to my lungs, which waswhatwehad been concerned about.
Some of us vulnerable folk cannot take Paxlovid either, or remdesivir. I am not sure what to do now. Friends asked me to dinner. I have been staying alone after a bad COVID case last month. It is awkward to ask people to test. Maybe we could take a walk.
There is a holiday surge and then another when school and college kids go back and then things seem to settle down. I am going to be super cautious until then. COVID affected my heart enough to land me in inpatient briefly.
My 96 year old MIL got RSV at Thanksgiving. She needed oxygen, and she slept a lot. She gave it to 71 year old SIL, who was in bed for 2 weeks ⊠when she went back to visiting MIL in her AL facility, there was an outbreak of Covid. MIL didnât get it. However, SIL, who has had no Covid vaccines, downplayed Covid and had escaped getting Covid ⊠got Covid. She was really sick - not needing to be hospitalized, but sicker than she ever had been. Itâs been several weeks, and sheâs still incredibly tired.
Hâs Christmas Covid was a runny nose, a scalp that was tender to the touch, and difficulty sleeping. Much better than when we had it in summer of 2022.
As I have posted before, I got Covid for the second time at my daughterâs wedding (11/11/23) or shortly before or after. The Covid disappeared in a few days with Paxlovid but apparently triggered another awful flare of apparent rheumatoid arthritis. I saw a rheumatologist last month who said that my bloodwork doesnât indicate RA. But of course I have all the symptoms including big-time flares. I saw a hand doctor yesterday who used a term for Covid sequlae (sp?) and I messaged him to ask him for the word. Will google of course and share!
I canât speak for others, but I would be perfectly fine if you asked me to test, or if we could just meet outside. You just have to say you landed in the hospital and donât want to repeat the experience. Especially right now. We were at a New Yearâs Day party and our host had four heat lamps outside and more than half the party ended up hanging out there.
We have a lot of tests. We are trying to minimize gatherings and so far have stayed healthy. I would ask folks to test if I had been hospitalized. In the past when Iâve asked folks to test. I dropped test kits off for them at the hotel and they tested before we picked then up.
We were well aware that there have been a lot of Covid cases in our area, so we were careful. We attended church Christmas Eve but slipped into a pew in the back to avoid too much closeness with others. We left quickly and quietly to avoid people wanting to get too close to us. We thought we were protecting ourselves, but we ended up protecting others. That was fine by us.
Well, I guess I was a little too smug. I really thought I was going to be one of those people who donât get COVID.
I was supposed to visit a precast concrete plant in New Hampshire today. Theyâre my main client. Iâve worked for them over six years and never met them in person, so I was really looking forward to the trip. Last night, I started feeling a little yucky and I had a hard time sleeping. Stuffy nose, slight sore, throat, and headache (I get headaches all the time, but this is worse than usual). So I decided to take a test out of caution. Oops. I have it. Dark pink strip.
So whatâs the deal? How long do I need to isolate? Do I keep testing until itâs negative, or is there a certain number of days? I feel clueless. Ugh.
Itâs weird being sick. I havenât even had a cold for years. Iâm lucky I donât have a lot on my schedule so I can hibernate. I hope my husband doesnât get it. Weâll be careful now but it might be too late.
