Everyone in our household, including my mid-30s kids got and started taking paxlovid as soon as they tested + and we all were glad no one had trouble getting it. Our local CVS could prescribe & dispense.
@compmom Hoping it really was a schedule change and they just hadnāt gotten around to telling you rather than not wanting to test. Entirely possible they changed it up.
Thanks @mom2and but the invitation now remains a walk, not a visit.
DH was coughing and sneezing some so I made him take a test and it was positive. He will go on Paxlovid since heās over 65. Fortunately he has no site visits scheduled next week which is kind of unusual. The hard part will be getting him to rest.
Iām not feeling great today but still no respiratory issues. DH was out snow blowing the driveway this morning when I woke up! I told him he should take this opportunity to rest but I donāt think thatās possible for him.
I was supposed to get a new work project today but my client delayed the start until tomorrow. Iām kind of relieved since my brain feels foggy.
Sounds like while your symptoms are not terrible, itās kind of dragging out a bit??
Yes, seems like it.
Sidebar: the neurologist I know is squeezing me in today.
Hereās an article that goes in this thread.
@jym626 let us know!
MRI is next!
Brain or neck MRI? Or wrist?
TMI on an open forum. Sorry
I keep seeing reports that the dominant strain(s) at this moment are better able to infect more deeply, in the lungs. Today I read that the idea that viruses evolve to become milder, like a cold, is a myth. This is concerning. Whatever strain I had was in my lungs, but not enough to compromise oxygen levels significantly. These new strains are also said to be more immune-evasive, from both vaccines and prior infection. I wish there was more definite information but with COVID. info evolves more slowly than the virus and we are always catching up.
Thereās a ton of research but the zillion doctors I have talked to all say that they just donāt know. Itās all a work in progress.
It may be more immune-evasive (or not) and certainly COVID is everywhere at the moment, but I still can name numerous cases of close contact where no one else got sick. Itās just really really hard to predict and I think for a lot of us we are just tired of trying to game the system and willing to take the risk just like we do with other illnesses. There are stories like yours where everyone exposed gets it, but far more stories where it only hits one or two or no one else and most people have no idea where they got it. I myself had a close contact recently - 2 hours or so in a small room without ventilation in the afternoon with someone who tested positive the next morning upon developing symptoms- and didnāt get it (nor did anyone else including their spouse who is immunocompromised (they were careful but only after testing positive of course). Immune systems are funny things. I happened to have a couple social events before I knew I was in the clear and not one person expressed concern when I asked if I should pass. I actually had to keep people from hugging as usual. For the record Iāve had four vaccines, but not the latest, and one case of Covid (mild symptoms) in 2022. I definitely think the vaccines/infection give me some immunity even if they were all over a year ago (for the record, very pro-vax, but COVID vaccines are really rough on me and I decided I wasnāt up for another). My work and social cohorts are also all highly vaccinated and mostly lower risk other than being late middle-aged (some might say no longer middle-aged).
I was smug until I got it last week for the first time. This is Day 9 for me and I still donāt feel great. Coughing and diarrhea today, yay, great combination. Iāve had all vaccinations.
Yeah Iāve had it so I donāt think Iām immune or anything - not trying to be smug- just willing to take the risk like I do for other illnesses - knowing my immune system is generally pretty good and I have no huge risk factors for serious illness. My main point was thereās no way to know when or who might get it and that in my experience this strain is no more contagious than previous strains (and possibly less contagious than omicron).
I had what I assume was the JN.1 strainā¦since both DH and I got sick in the UK and it seemed to be ground zero for spread. I have almost no respiratory issues (did take Paxlovid). But oh boyā¦the intestinal uproar stayed for about two weeks.
