Who wears their shoes around the house?

My friend wears his shoes ALL the time in his house. I don’t know why, he seems that he is scared to take them off or something. His parents don’t care, but still, I’m scared if he wears them to bed. haha

^ LMFAOOO
Go to his house for a sleepover, and take a peek while he’s sleeping! ;)

Yeah I like being barefoot. Unless somebody else’s floor is dirty, I’ll probably be barefoot.

When I was in Israel, Egypt, and Jordan… it only seemed to be a problem in Muslim homes… other than that no one cared?

But I think this is an odd question… most people white, black, hispanic, asian, purple, blue, and gold don’t wear shoes inside.

Though I’m wearing shoes right now… just because. I was running earlier in them and exercising in the house… so yeah.

South asian family and I instinctively take my shoes off going in the house. I really don’t make a big deal out of it though, just a habit after years.

I think for some, it’s a matter of culture and for others a matter of habit. My family doesn’t wear shoes inside the house because my mom is a neat-freak! So I’ll either wear socks or go barefoot…

I never used to, but since I bruised my heel again I’ve started wearing a clean pair of shoes around the house for support.

i used to think wearing shoes inside the house was absolutely unacceptable, and nobody did it.

then i started watching lizzie mcguire. she allllllllways wore those shoes inside her house. @.@

I wear flip-flops at home.

I don’t like the idea of my precious feet touching the floors.

I don’t because I like to flop on the floor whenever it’s insanely hot. That and I believe in the 10 (sometimes its more like 30) sec rule of food at home (I would never do this anywhere outside of the house because my mom’s a pretty hardcore at keeping the house clean).

AUGirl: Hmm, I guess I was being a bit presumptuous saying Middle Eastern, I meant Muslim. But I wasn’t excluding other races’ households. From my personal experience, I have never gone to a Muslim/Asian household where shoes weren’t taken off and forbidden from stepping into the home. However, at my best friends’ homes (White and Hispanic) they both wear shoes and go barefoot inside.

When I was little I wore shoes around the house all the time, and my parents didn’t care. But as I got in the habit of taking off shoes at the doors of my friends houses, I started doing taking them off when I walked through the door at home too (all of whom were caucasian - the schools I went to were 85+% caucasian, in a 70%+ white town).

I guess I just leave them on out of convenience. Why waste the time to take off shoes if you’re only going to be home for an hour? I always take off my shoes if its rained or they’ve been through a mess of some sort, and I’ll take them off the second I sit on the couch or my bed, so it doesn’t seem like its that big of a deal in terms of mess. Of course, our floors are pretty much cheapish carpet or linoleum, so that probably factors in.

In college I’ve been wearing flip-flops everywhere, inside and out (yay CA). Taking off shoes in a dorm room is kind of silly, at least if you’re me, since I generally wasn’t there for more than a few minutes anyway. And people will look at you funny if you take off your shoes in the common room (now if you arrive there shoeless, that’s a completely different story - its totally ok!)

Its funny that the shoe thing is culturally linked. I think I may have worn my shoes around my asian exboyfriends nice house when I visited…oops! I wonder what his family thought…maybe that’s why we broke up :P

im indian. no shoes in my house. its kinda gross if you think about where your shoes have been… public bathrooms

Wearing shoes all the time weakens the muscles of your foot. It’s not a big problem if you don’t exercise much, but for runners like myself, it can really hurt you.
