I realize that I don’t notice clothes much in person or when I’m watching TV–unless they are period costumes or something really special like wedding dresses/ball gowns.
Most of the time I am dressed like Mike Rowe. His wardrobe looks awesome on me, and I love it!
When my kids were littler I remember the wife on Everybody Loves Raymond always looked cute in real person clothes. For about five seconds I thought, “I should try to dress more like her”. Then I remembered that a cute little mini skirt and tights with a twin set and chunky jewelry did NOT mix well with play dough and swing sets and hauling laundry 
Cam on Bones. Of course, I’d need to be ten inches taller, forty pounds lighter, and be able to wear high heels without wincing 
I also like the clothes that Jessica on Suits wears. Same problem, though.

In a word: no. Because for the most part everyone on TV wears a size 0 or on the upside a size 4. (my H was a TV/Film costumer and I rarely profited from it.)

How about Mindy Kaling? Her clothes would look ridiculous on most anybody else of her size and weight, but she manages to look fabulous pretty much always.
Re Post 19–Kate Beckett on Castle with high heel (skinny heels!) boots chasing bad guys? And she has several different pairs…all super “to die for type”. I couldn’t rock that in my best dreams (I could rock the boots for two minutes up until they hurt my feet anyway). I comment on those boots every time I see the show. Guns out, bullet proof vests and…boots with heels. Must be in the show contract because I know any police department would not endorse them… (I do love 'em though!)
And Cam on Bones is the best dressed lady around. She is the classy fashion showcase for a professional. She’s hard to beat.

Drop Dead Diva. 2009-14 show. Great show. The main character who was short and overweight (part of the plot line–a former model whose body image changes in the afterlife) always looked great.
Throw in some great shoes, a Chanel purse, and add her charming smile, and - bingo! - a winning look.

Me too, @mathmom . I see you are a geeky Star Trek fan too. I could go for that outfit if I had that figure. Actually, I used to have that figure (and I covered it all up). What happened?

deb922, I read your thread title and immediately thought of Lucy Liu on Elementary too. There are blogs devoted to her wardrobe. Sometimes edgy can seem juvenile, but this costumer gets it spot on for a sophisticated adult woman.
Does anyone remember Cuddy from House? She was allegedly a top doctor and the chief administrator of a hospital and usually dressed like…well, NOT the way you dress when you want to appear professional. Her cleavage was always spilling out of her tops, and was so so annoyingly unbelievable.
I don’t really remember characters’ wardrobes which weren’t over the top…
I guess I’d say I would like to dress like Kelly Ripa, because I’d be so thrilled to have that body that I wouldn’t care what I was wearing.

^ Archie Panjabi is so gorgeous. I wouldn’t want to wear her show costumes (not into so much leather!) but they look great on her.
I always wish there was a store where you could buy the clothes you see on television.

All the costumes from the TV series “Rome”. And having personal slaves to dress me and pour me honey-water would be a nice-to-have.
@mathmom and @busdriver11 I liked a couple of Troi’s looks, the long dress, and especially when she had to put on the uniform like everyone else. I thought she looked fabulous in that. Although her costume in the pilot – the mini-dress – was hideous.
