Who's applying ED to Penn?

so many runners on this thread! I love it. I do the 800, the 400, and the relays. Sometimes my coach makes me run the mile, which I do not like haha.

for the list…

M&T - Wharton

Do we still receive a decision letter in the mail? If so, when can we expect to receive that?

@free2rhyme, haha good guess. i am indeed a girl. i’m asian as well

@acceptmealready
There is such thing as voluntary response bias. The people who respond and post their stats are more than likely to be part of a same “type” of people, in this case, the accepted. This greatly skews the data in favor for us. I’m not saying that the CC acceptance rate isn’t slightly higher, but that you can’t look at the raw data as conclusive evidence for correlation in this case.

It still greatly stresses me out whenever I see highly qualified applicants get rejected for no seemingly apparent good reason.

lol @ laodicean taking AP Statistics? haha. Wharton ED, Asian Male for the list. hoping for the best :slight_smile: good luck guys!

Haha yeah! My post was actually pertinent to the unit we are on now so I figured I might as well.

@sweetcookie: well said - and that’s exactly how I feel.

I was looking at last year’s ED Results thread again today and I noticed two things:

1) many of the people who were rejected had SAT scores around 2250+ (especially for Wharton) which kind of scared me… and didn’t make much sense either? On the contrary many of those who were accepted (to all schools) had scores generally in the 2200 range, typically towards the lower side. Do you guys have any reasons for this?

2) this is referring more to laodicean’s post, and it seems like most of the initial posts (i.e. within an hour of getting the Penn response) on CC are outright rejects/defers - I guess the people that are most hurt by the response are more likely to post. Those that expect the deferral/rejection tend not to post, and in later pages, most of the responders are people who got accepted - so yeah there’s definitely a discrepancy there. Regardless, @acceptmealready: your post was one of the most comforting I’ve read in a long time so I’m still going to go with your statistic lol - a 2/3 chance is DEFINITELY more comforting than a 1/4 chance :)

Also @laodicean: you express yourself EXTREMELY well lol. I’m guessing your essays must’ve really been some good writing! :)

Also just a general question but how often do you guys think about Penn in a day? (at least for this week/the next TWO DAYS)

that’s true…good thing i am not going into statistics…

Oh and alsoooo I think race plays an extremely important role in the majority of decisions… which is weird if you ask me, but I guess it makes sense.

Guys it’s like 4:30 today… in exactly 2 days, i.e. 48 HOURS from now - what do you think you’ll be doing???

@SEN102, I actually I had no idea what you were, so I guessed guy but put you in the female pile to get you to respond to the thread. But I fixed it, so all is well.

@aangel, honestly, I probably would be too busy too think about Penn if it weren’t for you guys. But its cool, I don’t mind.

I will be watching “Avatar:the Last Airbender” probably.

How many of you guys have unhelpful guidance counselors? My guidance counselor is so incompetent. She expects me to do everything. When I have a question about the college process, she tells me to call the college. Why can’t she; isn’t that part of her job description?

Today, Drexel emailed me and told me they couldn’t accept my transcript b/c my freshmen year grades were from another school and they need the previous school’s transcript. I think the same issue happened at Penn, ■■■.

How many of you guys “feel” that the universe is just out there to get you? Now, how many of you guys are actually screwed over by the universe?

Random question: What do you guys plan on majoring in at Penn?

(yes, you will all be majoring in something at Penn, because you will all get in)

Philosophy woooo!

Or if you are applying to Wharton, what’s your concentration?

@laodicean: yeah, I regret asking my Calculus teacher (I should have asked my precalculus teacher). The point was I wanted AP teachers to recommend me and the two non-liberal arts AP teachers I had last year were both not exactly good with words. Since my schedule isn’t as impressive as it should be (stupid counselors and transfer processes) I wanted to have a teacher show that I can indeed take hard courses and do well in them. My other rec comes from the AP Biology teacher who I worked closely with and talked to a lot last year even though I did not take AP Biology junior year (she was my homeroom teacher and school UIL science team sponsor).

@C0nqu1stador: I’m also applying to the DMD program. Nooo. More competition :(

Do they have limits for how many people they accept in each major? If a bunch of people apply to your same major, will the admit rate be lower for you?

@free2rhyme: SAME. My guidance counselor probably hurts more than she helps me. She has no idea what she’s doing half the time, and when she does know what she’s doing, she’s usually too lazy to do it. At least she’s somewhat being forced to do the basic guidance counselor things like sending out transcripts and stuff now, but as far as actually ‘guiding’ me throughout high school/the college application process, she either expects me to figure it out or gives me bad advice.
I’m going to stop myself before I start ranting about my school’s guidance department because it gets me really furious. They’re probably a large reason not very many people from my school get into ivy leagues.

@aangel: Friday at 4:30, I’ll probably be doing homework while nervously glancing at the clock ever couple minutes.

Also, I’m a hispanic female if you wanna add me to that list. I’m already on the list for SEAS.

@aangel
Thanks a lot! I’m always self-conscious about my writing since I usually have problems with clarity. I’ve been told I have great style, I just don’t always get my point across.

@dfree
Undecided engineering (and if accepted into M&T, probably entrepreneurship as well).

@free2rhyme I’m totally in the same boat as you as far as guidance counselors go. The guidance department at my school is extremely incompetent, rude, and hardly ever even there. At schools in neighboring towns, guidance counselors pick out which colleges students should think about, and call the colleges regularly to update student information or to ask questions. At my school, all the counselors do is paste your name into their recommendation template and send it out. So frustrating.

And I totally feel what you’re saying with the whole “universe is out to get you” thing. Things haven’t been going so great in my life lately…
