Who's applying ED to Penn?

@sweetcookie: Night markets are AWESOME. I went once (when I was around 14-15) and it was quite a blast. And without alcohol. Imagine it, with. :stuck_out_tongue: #youwouldenjoyitgreatly

Canucks will probably be at a disadvantage. What’s the purpose of hashtags?

Do you guys have any ideas where you might go, if you get rejected from all your reach schools (just want to get an idea of other people’s back up plan)?

Personally, I can see myself at Penn State or Drexel, but I am going to pretty much die of debt if I go to Drexel.

@empaige21 it’s okay. i’m not part of the chinese clan here too. same continent, but i’m from korea

@hardworking21 lol definitely felt like i connected with ap frank least out of all the characters but thought it was crazy that his korean mom married a white person #neveractuallyhappens

FYI, Philly’s Chinatown recently started a Night Market:

[People, aromas mingle at Chinatown Night Market in Philadelphia - Philly.com](<a href=“Inquirer.com: Philadelphia local news, sports, jobs, cars, homes”>Inquirer.com: Philadelphia local news, sports, jobs, cars, homes)

@free2rhyme they’re used on twitter and tumblr sometimes so that other people can easily search what they’re looking for and see your posts about that same topic

Ahh that makes sense. No offense, but why would anyone want to search “you would enjoy it greatly” on CC?

@free2rhyme: International + asian = disaster
Okay but there’s actually quite a few Canucks at Penn, so I’m not feeling AS hopeless
Plus I attended school in the states, so it’d be easier for adcoms to understand my grades from a traditional us system
canadian grades are sorta messed up and deflated
i remembered how hard it was to get higher than a 90 on my elementary school report card shudders

I actually talked about Phili’s chinese community in my why penn essay and about how I could use my fluency to contribute to a business in the community by extending its reaches to communities like the chinese community :)

Phili has like one of the top 5 biggest chinatowns

Love Philly’s amazing Chinatown - on the same level as those of New York and Boston

i’ve never been to philly’s chinatown. field trip when (hopefully)/if we get in?

Canadians aren’t really considered as internationals at Penn, but still it doesn’t help.
sweetcookie, do you study in PA? I remember the grading system, wasn’t it 80+ is A, 70-79 was a B, and so on? But that may have only been elementary school. But I think it was so hard to get an A in Canada was because the teachers checked all the homework for correctness.

@free2ryhme- we weren’t using hashtags for real, we were making a joke from somewhere in the aughts of the last 50 pages :P

Okay as long as being Canadian doesn’t SIGNIFICANTLY detract my chances
I’m fine
PA as in Pennsylvania? No, I studied in North Carolina, Georgia, and Minnesota
rather complicated situation here but at least I don’t hail from ultra-competitive places like New York or Boston
Getting 3 A’s was the highlight of my second grade report card. That and being Highest achievement student for every semester =)
I remembered the grading system was just plain weird, cuz the teachers would tell us that listening attentively in class and working hard in class will count heavily in grades. so it’s not like everything’s about test and homework grades.

@Empaige, sorry, i didn’t know. I didn’t read the last 30 pages or so. My friends do the hashtag thing too, but I just figured they were just joking around or it was some computer error.

@sweetcookie, yeah, I meant PA. That’s amazing you have been to so many places; frankly, I moved once I can’t take it.
I didn’t have good memories in elementary school; I remember my music teacher from grades 1-5, who would literally scream at me every time I played the recorder. I really didn’t care about school until the 4th grade, so that’s when I realized getting all A’s was almost impossible.
Yeah I don’t remember that kind of grading system when I was in Canada, where in Canada were you from? I was from a suburb near Toronto.

@free2rhyme- Oh no! I wasn’t trying to be rude, I was just explaining why we were doing silly hashtags and I was also semi-mocking the fact that we have talked for over 50 pages about a school that we’re madly in love with.

@free2rhyme: It’s okay, I’m fairly used to moving nowadays
I’m actually kinda grateful to have this sort of experience during high school cuz it was definitely a chance to show Penn how flexible I was and how fast I could bounce back from seemingly poor experiences.
Yeah, why do they force us little kids to play the recorder? Pointless much?
I was from Toronto as well as a suburb near it called Cambridge. You heard of it before?
So you live in the US now?

@SENIO10 - i am applying to CAS --and yeah they really are lol
my optional upenn is my absolute favorite essay i wrote.

"I snore a little bit (okay a lot), and I sing in the shower. The moments when I open the door in my own face, get a paper-cut on my forehead, or stop at a green light and wait for it to turn red, are referred to by my friends as “Tina-moments.”

I wish all essays could be so fun i absolutely loved this prompt

No, no, I know you weren’t trying to be rude. It’s really hard to express yourself over the computer.

My guess is by the time decisions roll by (there will probably also be a countdown), the number of pages will be about 125.

@sweetcookie: you’ve obviously never been to SF’s Chinatown

Do you guys go to ridiculously competitive schools? My school is like 70 percent asian (indian + chinese + korean + japanese), and we’re number 2 in math and science or something according to US News and World Report

@sweetcookie, I used to live in Mississauga, which I think was near Brampton. Actually, I have heard of Cambridge; I think it was nearby. I was so happy when I found out how easy the US system was until like sophomore/junior year. I live in Pennsylvania right now, what about you?
