Is it true that international students virtually have no chance if they applied for financial aid? I applied and Im International, but my family’s situation had become really complicated over the last year. As in, my dad used to work for a company for a long time, but then lost his job this year and he is starting his own small company. But we are living on savings (wont get profit until at least 2 years) at the moment and unfortunately dont have enough to pay for Penn without aid.

If my situation was different, I would have not applied, but I had to now. I hope admissions will understand!!

On the website though, they strongly recommend you not to apply, if you’re international.

I think I made a big mistake! Now, I pretty much have no chance :(

butterflyfaerie, try not to worry too much Trying is never a mistake. I find effort to be much more indicative of character than the actual results, and working hard to achieve the goal of going to Penn – getting in or not – is a noble effort.

@laodicean, haha thanks, but I’m sure I’ll be hanging out in the consolation thread for a couple of days

@aangel, Yeah, I mean I do have almost one month to do it all. There are so many essays to do though and they’re all so different >_>

Also, I applied to UChicago EA. It’s my second choice as well. Honestly though, I feel like I have a better chance of getting into Penn (which is still slim) because my UChicago app was just… terrible. I screwed a lot of it up.

I thought UChi was very different than Penn…almost opposites, especially in terms of social atmosphere. What makes you guys like it so much? I’m curious.

@free2rhyme, Russell Peters <3 I do that sometimes, inserting quotes from random comedians and shows into my daily conversation… @OOquanta, I love A Thousand Years - Christina Perri!!! @IheartPW, Yay, who’s your favorite artist? (Other than Bruno Mars, of course.)

Well, think of it like this: one can like coffee, but it doesn’t automatically mean they hate tea.

Penn and UChicago both have their own idiosyncrasies that I have come to love, even though they’re really different.
For example, the social atmosphere. At Penn, it seems to me like everyone is very sociable and outgoing, which I like. I think I would fit in well there because I’m the same way, and I don’t like being 100% serious 100% of the time like the kids at maybe Harvard or Princeton do(maybe I’m generalizing too much). At U of C, everyone seems to be really dorky and nerdy, but I like that too because I’m a huge nerd at heart and it would be cool to just go somewhere where I could be my nerdy self and not care about what other people would think of me. I don’t know. It’s difficult to explain.

How would you guys describe the social atmosphere in Penn?

@aangel42
“I think you can relax. I haven’t even done ONE RD app yet. I just can’t do it. I think I’ll relax until the 9th and then after that, depending on the outcome, I’ll devote the rest of the month to RD apps.”

I AM IN THE SAME SITUATION AS YOU.^ Btw, I’m skipping work the Friday that decisions come out. I have a dance that evening. Hopefully, if it’s good news, I can celebrate and if it’s bad news, I can forget about it by spending time with my friends :D

No, I totally know what you mean, and I’m the same way. We’re all nerds and dorks at heart, aren’t we? I mean, we’re applying to an Ivy League school.

thanks @xAlex452 and @laodicean! It means a lot that there is still some hope :)

My semester exams start the day decisions come out and I have HL chemistry on friday!. But since Im in India, I wont actually get results till saturday morning 3:30am! It’s going to be an important morning. lol. I’m also re-taking the ACT on that day. If I get in, im skipping the ACT, but if I dont get in, I have to take it :/

If anyone here doesn’t get into Upenn… Is anyone planning on applying to the AEM program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences school at Cornell?

@567890
I’m going to apply to Duke, Dartmouth, Middlebury, Yale, Stanford, and USC

^List is very tentative to change…Middlebury is only on there because I got recruited there. USC is on there because I can go for free. Dartmouth may very well be replaced with Cornell. The rest are likely to stay though.
