I also had a call-back once and worried as much as you are. It wound up being fine.

Try not to worry. There is nothing you can do but wait, so try to google something else and stay off of web md!

Thank you, everyone! So nice to read all the messages. I’m feeling much better. Whatever happens will be fine.

I will report back, hopefully with an ‘all clear’!

Adding my wishes for good results. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve been called back. Like the others here, I have dense breasts and have had annual mammograms since I was 21 when I had a benign lump removed. I’ve gone through every kind of biopsy-- needle, core and the one that has you “hanging” and then another lumpectomy. All turned out benign or nothing that I’ve become impatient when I should be thankful. My doctor now recommends that I get an breast MRI this time around due to all the scar tissue I now have from all the biopsies and lumpectomies.

Best of luck to you.

Every time I go for a mammogram, I get a callback. Sometimes I’ve also had biopies, sometimes I’ve had to go to some special place that does intense detail mammograms. So far I’m lucky. It’s just been calcium deposits. Makes me not want to get a mammogram because it’s never simple.

I had a call back. My Dr. at the time left a message soon after, saying DO NOT WORRY. The technology just sees such a great amount of detail these days, and there are plenty of calls back. I had an ultra sound, and all was fine, just like the more recent test.

Just had a mammogram today. Apparently I now get to be on the every six months schedule. Lovely.

IUmom7 – hope that the docs can get the second mammo done quickly so that you know what’s happening. Not knowing is (at least to me) the hardest part. Hope everything is OK.

I’m anticipating an “interesting” mammogram this year – I have a cardiac defibrillator implanted in my chest and based on how they have positioned me for mammos in previous years, I have no idea how they are going to manage to work around this hardware!

Put me in the camp of being called back. I guess one of them wasn’t clear enough. Don’t borrow trouble, there’s enough to worry about. This is extremely common. Will wait for your update to announce all is well.

I have needed so many follow-ups in the past that I would only schedule mammograms when there was an on-site radiologist there to read them so I could have the additional films (2-6 more) all done on the day of the initial mammogram. Repeat views, spot compressions, etc. I was told breasts were very dense and hard to read and was glad they were being so thorough. Four years ago this mammo-center discontinued option of immediate radiologist read. Best thing that ever happened to me. I found another well-regarded center, have never had to have additional films since. Dense breasts? No, these are quite easy to read. Hmmm… now I have lots less radiation exposure. This is not to suggest that all those with frequent call backs could avoid them with the right center, though it is interesting how disparate these experiences can be.

That said, being called back seems to be a very common experience. With lots of cancer and health issues around me, I have an “until someone tells me it’s a problem, it’s not a problem” mantra that I chant to myself while awaiting results. Sometimes, it helps.
Here’s to peace of mind for you.

another call-back veteran. Worked myself into such a state of anxiety that I fainted at the second one. (Now they make me sit in the chair during the mammo to avoid a swoon.) Turned out to be nothing to worry about.

Good luck today! thinking of you…

IUmom - I hope it all went well today! Way back in the dark ages, my health plan used to recommend that everyone have a baseline mammogram at age 35. So, of course I got a callback after my very first mammogram - I couldn’t schedule a follow up for 6 weeks. The wait was awful, espcailly for us raging hypochondriacs.

It turned out to be nothing - in fact, my ob-gyn later told me that it looked as if the technician just didn’t do a good job on one breast and the resulting mammogram was of poor quality.

Had my first mammo last month…and was called back for more films…and was called back for an ultrasound…and was called back for a core biopsy. Looks like I have microcalcifications that needed checking out.

I didn’t believe that I had cancer because this is how my breasts have felt for over a decade, so I wasn’t worried. So I was surprised at the feeling of relief I had when I got the word that all was OK.

Looks like I am on the 6 months schedule now…hope all will go well today.

*So I was surprised at the feeling of relief I had when I got the word that all was OK. *

I had my older daughter tested for HIV when she was six. ( she had received multiple transfusions before testing) I considered it just a formality when anonymous testing became available, but I was * so relieved * when she was negative that I cried.
:D

Good luck, IUmom and everyone else going for a followup exam! Knocking on wood for you.

I was called back a few years ago, and it was terrifying (mostly in the middle of the night). As others have said, it all turned out to be ok in the end…hope your experience is the same.

Called back also, needed another look, and it turned out to be nothing.

Even while you tell yourself that, it was hard waiting once i was there.

Good luck.

Update: All clear!
Whew. THANK YOU everyone who posted here and sent good thoughts my way. SO appreciated!

I was very lucky there was a cancellation and that they read the results while I waited. It would be sooo hard to go days wondering!

YAY!!!

So happy for you!
Of course it’s nerve wracking but as many posters here pointed out…many times it’s nothing to worry about!!!

Hooray!!! SO glad you got that report as quickly as possible. That made my day! :)

Yay!!! I am SO happy for you! :)
