I was going to say that Billy Bob was edged out by Bill Pullman but I was looking up the title of the movie.

Kevin Kline. Great movie.

Harrison Ford in Air Force One.
We need a prez who can fight the bad guys himself.

I’m expecting Daniel Day Lewis to be the new favorite. His Lincoln will look and sound more like Lincoln than the robot one at Disney.

But for now another vote for Peter Sellers as President Merkin Muffley:

“Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here! It’s the War Room!”

And of course this:

"[on the phone, after having been told that the Russian Premier is drunk] Hello? Uh, hello? Hello, Dmitri? Listen, I can’t hear too well, do you suppose you could turn the music down just a little? [pause] Oh, that’s much better. Yes. Fine, I can hear you now, Dmitri. Clear and plain and coming through fine. I’m coming through fine too, eh? Good, then. Well then, as you say we’re both coming through fine. Good. Well, it’s good that you’re fine, and — and I’m fine. I agree with you. It’s great to be fine. [Laughs] Now then, Dmitri, you know how we’ve always talked about the possibility of something going wrong with the bomb. [pause] The BOMB, Dmitri! The hydrogen bomb! Well now, what happened is, uh, one of our base commanders, he had a sort of, well, he went a little funny in the head. You know. Just a little…funny. And uh, he went and did a silly thing. Well, I’ll tell you what he did, he ordered his planes…to attack your country. Well, let me finish, Dmitri. Let me finish, Dmitri. Well, listen, how do you think I feel about it? Can you imagine how I feel about it, Dmitri? Why do you think I’m calling you? Just to say hello? [sounding hurt] Of course I like to speak to you! Of course I like to say hello! Not now, but any time, Dmitri. I’m just calling up to tell you something terrible has happened. It’s a friendly call. Of course it’s a friendly call. Listen, if it wasn’t friendly,…you probably wouldn’t have even got it. They will not reach their targets for at least another hour. [pause] I’m sorry too, Dmitri. I’m very sorry. All right! You’re sorrier than I am! But I am sorry as well. I am as sorry as you are Dmitri. Don’t say that you are more sorry than I am, because I am capable of being just as sorry as you are. So we’re both sorry, all right? All right."

Concur with Harrison Ford in Air Force One. I like a president who can single handedly kick some terrorist butt!

Lergnom, you beat me to it. Peter Sellers was absolutely brilliant.

Peter Sellers improvised all of that dialog !!

Another vote for Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove.

I’m partial to Benjamin Walker in “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.” I thought he was amazingly Lincoln-like despite the goofy premise.

Another Bartlett fan. I wish a similar series would come back to tv.

How about Geena Davis in *Commander in Chief/I?

(Just aiming for some gender equality here. :))

Marian, I loved Jimmy Santos as president, too!

Count me among the WW lovers. I never watched it when it was on TV, but I bought the entire set of DVDs a couple of years ago when Amazon had a really low price, and S1 and I watched them over a couple of years. We finished the series only recently. Whenever we sit down in the living room to watch a movie or something, I expect to see the WW credits and hear that music!

Did everyone see the recent cast reunion, in that political ad for the sister of one of the cast?

[Walk and Talk the Vote - West Wing Reunion - Bridget Mary McCormack - YouTube](<a href=“Walk and Talk the Vote - West Wing Reunion - Bridget Mary McCormack - YouTube”>Walk and Talk the Vote - West Wing Reunion - Bridget Mary McCormack - YouTube)

Jeb Barlett for tv, Michael Douglas for a movie.

ignatius–Glenn Close was VP in Air Force One, I think she would have made a good movie president…and a real life president!!

Gary Sinise did a pretty good job as Truman (think it was a TV movie).
“ot really a president in the movie, but I adore John Adams in “1776”.”…ooh, William Daniels was fantastic in that…he and Howard Da Silva helped make that movie, but as John Adams he was supurb “Here I am at a stage of life, when other men prosper, I am reduced to living in Philadelphia”…though the scene that touched me was when he sort of sings “Is Anyone There?”, that got me…

As far as an actor being president I would vote for, that would have to be James Earl Jones (“The Man”)…just to have someone as president with that voice who could actually do a speech (not to mention could freak out congress with the voice of Darth Vader)…Morgan Freeman is another one like that, but give me JEJ:).

Would love to see Phillip Seymour Hoffman playing a president, just for the fun of seeing him chew up the scenery

oooh speaking of chewing up scenery
just remembered character actor Donald Moffatt in The Right Stuff as (then VP) LBJ

[The Right Stuff - Glenn’s Launch Aborted - YouTube](<a href=“The Right Stuff - Glenn's Launch Aborted - YouTube”>The Right Stuff - Glenn's Launch Aborted - YouTube)

AND
Paul Giamatti as John Adams
and my personal fave Stephen Dillane as Jefferson:

<a href=“Jefferson's best moments from John Adams - YouTube”>www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaqmBOyNCuE

musicprnt, I always get choked up at that part. When I went to Independence Hall, that was the scene playing through my head.

I would have to vote for Martin Sheen in West Wing and Michael Douglas in American President. Love many of the others mentioned here - Kevin Kline in Dave (especially his rendition of Hail to the Chief in the shower), Harrison “Get off my plane” Ford in Air Force One, Bill Pullman in Independence Day, My Fellow Americans - very funny movie.

We liked Geena Davis in Commander in Chief, although thought it kind of odd that the congress seemed to consist exclusively of Donald Sutherland!

And I agree that Frank Langella did a wonderful job as Nixon in Frost/Nixon.

Lots of movies to add to my list!

I did see The American President - thought Annette Benning was wonderful.

Although he was only a Governor I would vote for William J LePetomane for President . No surprises, he was a corrupt as they come!
