The uc application says they dont look for flawless english essays, as long as they are clear and intellegible, it should be fine. I think they value a 3.7ish students who worked fulltime or dedicated to a lot of volunteering more than 4.0 students who did nothing. Since they didnt do anything else beside classes, they tend to, and they should, perform better.
