Why Americans Dress So Casually

^ Not the New Yorkers I know.

Interesting. Hubby and I are going to NYC for our 25th, and I’m planning to pack my “nice” clothes. This is in direct contrast to packing for other trips where I pack my most comfortable clothes.

Backing up a little: spouse, his brothers, and his dad are all color deficient. Mostly red green but they all vary. Spouse, oldest brother, and dad all keep very colorless wardrobes to ensure no color issues. Middle brother on the other hand insists on color. He also happens to be a teacher and his kids have taken to keep running lists of his worst color combinations…

Comfortable shoes are the most important thing in determining how to dress. Women who wear those really high heels and really pointy toes are asking for foot, calf and tendon problems in the future. The Chinese used to consider tiny bound feet beautiful, but the women couldn’t walk. How different are ten inch heels, high wedges, pointy toes?

Women who are in pain while thinking they are looking good are foolish. Live pain free. Wear comfortable shoes.

A fashion trend that I can’t stand: Pairing cowboy boots with baby doll dresses! I did see quite a few UT coeds wearing that combination at the game. Yikes. I think those girls will look back at their photos and cringe.

I live about two hours from NYC and even when I am only going for the day - even if only for a Dr appt. I dress up more than I do when I am in my city. I was down for an afternoon meeting up with BFF who lives in San Diego and I had to tell her to change into something else when going for lunch then late afternoon drinks at rooftop bar at Viceroy.

Since the Spanish walk a lot, they make really comfortable, fashionable shoes. I’ve walked for miles in the boots and shoes I bought in Spain. I think that’s one reason they don’t need to rely on running shoes.

alh- No socks

Here’s a slideshow of “business casual” at Tumblr, providing more support for the conclusion that “khakis and s polo shirt” don’t work everywhere:

My family was in the shoe business, I love really nice shoes, and I wear flats 95% of the time. If I wear a heel, it’s fairly low, or it’s a wedge. But as for pointy toes - if you’re buying them right, the point doesn’t start until past the point where your toes are at, so it doesn’t compress your toes at all. But that only works if you have small or average feet (like I do) and you can “handle” having the shoe go extra long. A woman with a size 10 shoe would have a harder time.

Unless the woman is over 6 ft tall, then it all balances out. I am short, so almond-toe shoes are my pointy-toe shoes for my size 40 feet.

Sorry, this cracks me up. I can’t help wondering how much time and discussion went into “the toe decision”. And does someone monitor this?

at D17’s public HS; dress code is basically anything goes except spaghetti straps.

D likes dresses, and has decided to wear one every day this year to school. It’s been so much fun for her; she looks great every morning! we’ve had a blast shopping for them too (new/used/vintage). we’ve seen kids dressing up more at school lately it seems.
