My son was interested in Stanford. As a junior He is taking several AP classes, has a GPA of 4.3, is a varsity athlete in two sports-though not the star, is involved in the Robotics program, Honor Society, does community service, liked by teachers, SAT of 2170. He now is thinking of not wasting his time appling to Stanford because he knows someone who is brighter than he is that didn’t get in and he has heard is is impossible unless you are an olympian.

There is no harm in applying although his SAT is pretty low for Stanford.

his gpa is also on the low end
and he hasnt taken that many APs unless thats just the conditions of the school he attends

In all honesty, he’s probably correct. If he could be recruited for a sport, no issue, try. If not, even with a 2300 and being top of class, unless you’re from a state or country sendng few applicants, chances are slim.

Thanks for your honesty.

personally i think its worth a shot. the worst they can do is say no, and youll never know if u dont try. but then again what do i know lol.

It’s worth a shot? Don’t count on it though. There is not just one college for each kid. Most would be happy at a multitude of colleges.
