Haha I’m pretty sure I know who this person is.

Even Yale adcoms have been heard to utter the word “crapshoot.”

Sad, but true.

Certainly people with lesser stats were accepted. Maybe they didn’t like his essays, or his teachers made him sound like a robot.

But “It’s a crapshoot” is the most likely explanation.

Maybe he didn’t stand out amongst teachers at your school. Many teachers, from my experience, just view the success of asian students as “typical.” Something that they wouldn’t do for say, a black student or even a white student who stood out to them. That said, maybe your teachers gave him bad/mediocre recommendations, maybe the guidance counselor didn’t know him. That said, my guess would be that your friend got screwed over by your school (though that’s a pretty harsh assumption to make, so maybe I shouldn’t come on so strong lol).

Otherwise, your friend is incredible in every single way, and he will definitely get into Harvard or Princeton… no doubt… unless what I said before is true lol, which would suck

why would they want a perfect person, then there’s no room to improve at the school, so then its a waste of time :-D!

holy cow he should be a musician or something

Maybe his stats are too high. Now that Jian Li has filed his lawsuit against Princeton alleging that Asians must have higher stats than other races to be admitted, perhaps the Ivies will accept only lower stat Asians, in line with the other races it admits. Then there can be no more allegations of tougher standards for Asians. (Just a thought, not trying to be ■■■■■-like!)

Maybe your friend is not all that perfect. Even if he is fine, he may have accidentally come off as arrogant or a helicopter parent’s child, somebody with no clear focus, who has been polished to look like that. Even if it isn’t true, he may have come off like that…

haha did u kno that jian li now goes to harvard

i thought he went to Yale

he transfered

Jian Li is a pathetic case…the kid is ludicrous…

Why transfer from Yale to Harvard?

His girlfriend goes to Harvard - at least, that’s the reason he tells people.

there must have been something wrong with your friend b/c there are are plenty of kids (Asian and Caucasian) that got into Yale schools with far lower stats. Just glance at the ED thread. WELCOME to college admissions in 2008. For all you know his recs could have said he was arrogant…or maybe he has a criminal record .

To paraphrase Forrest Gump…

“Perfect is as perfect does.”

Any transfer applicant to Harvard from any college implicitly has to answer that question. If a transfer application was successful, presumably the answer was convincing to the Harvard transfer admission committee.

HEY HE’S MY FRIEND!

she does

no the teachers at my school would never do that. and no he does not

With all the negative attention the Jian Li case has attracted, I’m sure he feels slightly ostracized when his classmates ask, “What, Yale not good enough?” Perhaps he transferred to Harvard because he was annoyed and felt out of place. But I would imagine he wouldn’t be taken that kindly by Harvard people either.

Narcissa, care to shed light on your friend’s motives?

harvard > yale in prestige, lol. -_-
dumb high school drop outs probably heard of harvard and nothing else
