Ross Dress for Less $2.99-$3.99 a package that contains 2 pillowcases. That’s where I picked up Tommy H, RL, Waverly, Tommy Bahama and Hotel Collection. Just buy the nicer ones that hold up well for multiple washings.

For an easy-to-make product like a pillowcase, where there are few barriers to entry into the market, the principle of “whatever the market will bear” leads to low prices, not high prices. Plenty of robust competition in the pillowcase market.
I personally think generic pillowcases are pretty cheap.
Luxury pillowcases are expensive because the fabric is more expensive. Still, it is a product that is often on sale due to robust price competition.
If the prices were really disproportionately high because the “market could bear” disproportionately high prices, then everyone would be going into the pillowcase business.
My aunt prefers real linen (as opposed to cotton) pillowcases. She got an old linen flat sheet at an estate sale. I cut it up and made pillowcases for her. That was an inexpensive excercise. Many “bargain” pillowcases are 50% polyester or more. Polyester has its place I suppose but not in pillowcases.
I make my own pillowcases when I can since the price irks me too.
I just pick up pillowcases at Ross when I find them at low prices and we are running low. I prefer prints or dark colors. They last quite a long time–I still have one that is 40 years old and is still intact!
Mom2…it’s called Ocean State Job Lot. A New England chain. But Big Lots has pillow, cases in the same price range as well.
The Ocean State ones are brand name. Like I said, I get dark colors that match my sheet sets. (My sheet sets are lighter colors…so not the same colors but complementary ones).
Remember when pillowcases were so cheap they were your trick-or-treat bag???.. Ah the memories…
Please tell me…how much are you folks spending on pillowcases? We get them for about $3 each. That is not expensive.
