Why doesn't anybody tell you?!?!

That is great news about your daughter @Lindagaf . We are all rooting for her.

Mine is also making noises about not going back second semester. She had a rocky start, withdrew from one class, got sick (her own fault, but the health center really dropped the ball too). We will see what happens. As far as I can tell her grades (other than the W) will all be in the A/B range, so going back or transferring will not be a problem. Three more weeks to go. Hang in there, everyone.

I am so happy that he is happy and I still have one at home. (9th grade) But, I agree with you that I miss the noise and the laughter and you worry because your a mom and that is how we roll… Our deal was that he has to call me each Sunday. It has worked out well. He has been home twice during this semester. I am thankful he is close enough to come home if he wants to. I think I would be more worried if he was far away. We text occasionally which is fun. He texted me this morning and said that he had to give a presentation and wanted to know what “business casual” meant. :slight_smile:

Why doesn’t anyone tell you that it’s the best thing when my kid is home, but it’s worse because it makes me realize even more that this is the way it is now. :frowning: I want her to drop out and come back home. Not really, but kind of, just a tiny selfish bit.

On the plus side, why doesn’t anyone tell you that your kid might not bother to tell you that she actually has some friends now and is starting to enjoy herself? :slight_smile:

^ Thrilled to hear this. It is true that we generally hear the bad and they forget to tell us the good. Happened with us too…getting the positive info was like pulling teeth. Now I know NO news is great news!

@Lindagaf I truly was thinking about you most of the weekend. Glad to hear things are looking up.

I guess the answer to “Why doesn’t anyone ever tell you?” is… because we are the last to know. Merry Happy to you.

And to all of us who’ve just ended our first semester. 1 down. 7 to go.

@Queen’s Mom

Do you have an update you’re willing to share?

@Lindagaf

Very nice to read your D is making friends and starting to enjoy herself.

I’ve stopped asking D16 how things are going because IMO she was taking that opportunity to deliver smart ass negative comments about her school, the other students, her classes, everything.

So far, she’s been cheerful at home for Xmas break, has voluntarily shared some pics of her & her friends at school, & she shared some good news about one class, but mostly, we get very little info.

We heard noises about transferring almost right away, in September, but we think that had more to do with the BF she left back at home.

Was thrilled to get my teen off to college. He was a pill his whole senior year!!

@Midwest67, no update yet. She’s still at school finishing up her last paper (due tomorrow at noon). I do plan to discuss her future plans when she gets home. I’m not against her transferring, but I am really against her dropping out or even taking a semester off. I think that would be the exact wrong thing. However, if she makes that decision, I would prefer it be made before I pay the spring tuition bill.

Why doesn’t anyone tell you this: You will call your kid one day at college, and she will be walking to dinner with a friend and sound really happy. And after you hang up, you will cry because you finally know your kid actually is happy, because you weren’t really sure until now.

Love your post, @Lindagaf. I’m happy for you and your daughter! Such a relief for a parent!

@Lindagaf, worded well!!! I know exactly how you feel! When D said, “I can’t wait to get back to campus” at the end of spring break, I was so thrilled. :slight_smile: We should celebrate.

@MaineLonghorn , as you only live 30 minutes away from her, I say “see you later!” Haha!

Yay!

@Lindagaf So happy for your D…and you too!

@Lindagaf that made me teary. nothing in the world is better than knowing our kids are happy, and when they are not it’s the worst thing in the world. So glad your D is doing so well now!
