Why I love Pitt

Not impressive compared with whom? Ivy schools? Perhaps. Ever notice that first 20 US News rankings are all private schools? Everyone should consider relying on more than just one source. That is just doing your homework appropriately.

Staying with US News’ rankings, Pitt ranks 20th in the Public University category and 39th in the Best Value category. US New’s webpage also has the Times Higher Education (of London’s) World University Rankings and Pitt comes in 37th out of all US schools. The Center for Measuring University Performance lists Pitt as the 29th overall school in the United States. In Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Academic Ranking of World Universities, Pitt comes in 37th out of all US schools. RatER Global University rankings out of Russia places Pitt 28th out of all US institutions. Washington Monthly has Pitt 43rd. Webometrics has Pitt 34th in the US.

Average those eight together including the 56th in US News overall rankings (but not including the public subcategory) and you get an average of 38th (and a median of 37). That gives you a much better view of where Pitt fits.
