Hanna - that’s way too sensible. It’s also unprofitable and fails to prey on fear and xenophobia. Never gonna happen.

Way too coy and PC. 99% of the recent terrorists have been young Muslim men. Don’t know if they know what the NFL is. Still get a random white power anti-government type but they have become relics. We could save lots of time and money at airports not feeling up 80 year old women and men. I see that every time I go through security and it makes me sick that being so PC makes this sort of outrage necessary.

Muslims historically tolerated Jews. Throughout most of history, the Muslim world was much, much more hospitable to Jews than the Christian world. The positions have only reversed in the past century or so. (Really since the rise of Zionism – a project of European Jews reflecting European nationalism and a response to European antisemitism, with not a small amount of European colonialism mixed in.)

Of course, the Muslim world had plenty of its own problems. There were lots of periods when living there relatively free of persecution was not necessarily a good deal compared to living among anti-semites in Europe. And, as with Christianity, “Muslim” is dynamic, and has meant different attitudes at different times in different places.

I don’t think Muslims ever officially tolerated Hindus, though. Certainly many Hindus lived in areas with Muslim rulers, and peacefully. But as a theological matter, Muslims and Jews both acknowledge that all of them worship the same God. Polytheism is not acceptable, however, and it’s hard to conclude that Hindus aren’t polytheistic.

And, wow!, so “a Christian who is violent is so in DIRECT violation of everything that is known about his or her prophet’s teachings”? Are you kidding? That is such an anachronistic statement! Ever heard of the Crusades? The Inquisition? The Hundred Years’ War? Christianity – official Christianity – has as strong a tradition of violence as any religion on Earth.

“99% of the recent terrorists have been young Muslim men.”

How come terrorism is the only kind of violence that justifies fear and loathing? When I’m walking home alone at night, I’m not worried about al Qaeda. I’m worried about young “Christian” men. There were 14,748 murders in the US in 2010. How many were the work of Muslim terrorists? A lot fewer than the 1000+ American women killed by their husbands or boyfriends every year.

Wow indeed. Obviously you were expecting to read the usual apologia for Christianity, so that’s what you found. It is NOT, however, what I said.

Read the rest of what I said; to wit, Christianity has at least as bad a record of violence as Islam.

It is nevertheless true that the man Jesus preached non-violence, and that any “Christian” who is violent is acting in direct opposition to his teachings, insofar as they are known. “Christians” who want to practice hatred and violence invariably look to the Old Testament and to the baleful influence of Paul–who remade Christianity according to his own sorry prejudices, IMHO–in order to justify themselves. Neither of those sources represent the teachings of Jesus. It is a simple fact. THe fact that they have indeed done so many times and continue to do so is also a simple fact.

Consolation, as it happens, I agree with your reading of the Gospels, but not everyone does. There are plenty of people who manage to find justification for force and war throughout the Bible.

The bible is full of justifications for violence, slavery, and all kinds of vile behavior, but I certainly don’t recall any in the gospels. Haven’t read them in eons, though. The last time was probably in Greek.

To say that American Muslims possess a common negative feeling towards Jews is not true based on my experience.

I cannot believe that Lowe’s acted as they have. No more shopping there for me.

Unless you were a slave. And then there is the man himself saying he didn’t come to bring peace but rather a sword.

As an agnostic, it’s always interesting to me how different people choose to read the same words. Plus the justifications for such differences are equally interesting.

Originaloog, that is a great article. I do know that there is a lot of variation among individual Muslims, based on education, upbringing, national origin, etc.

There are Muslims who seldom go to a mosque and seldom pray…who even sometimes drink alcohol (but perhaps not publicly)…but would never eat pork. I have met South Asian Muslims who say they were told, when they were growing up and had never met a Jewish person, that they should not “break bread with” (eat a meal with) with a Jew…however, in another country and after wider life experiences, they went ahead and did it.

Not surprising, since 35% of Americans polled think that the people of Islam, rather than just a small radical group, is the enemy:

[Question Search | Pew Research Center for the People and the Press](<a href=“Question Search | Pew Research Center”>Question Search | Pew Research Center)

and 40% think that there is “a great deal” or “a fair amount” of extremism among Muslims in the US:

[Question Search | Pew Research Center for the People and the Press](<a href=“Question Search | Pew Research Center”>Question Search | Pew Research Center)

Of course, Americans are generally not very knowledgeable about Islam:

Unfortunately, when haters comprise a significant percentage of the population, it is commercially risky for a business to do something that gets them riled up. Probably most of the businesses went in not realizing that the haters would publicize it as a cause (as opposed to going with actively making a statement against the haters, knowingly taking into account the commercial risks).

However, it is not necessarily true that a business that stops running ads is doing so because of the haters’ protest. Businesses start and stop running ads for all kinds of other reasons.

In all honesty, All-American Muslim is just like any other reality show/attention grabber. If it wasn’t for the Muslim part there wouldn’t be just a large out cry. I certainly believe for the equality of religious faiths, but some ( the Islamic) faith usually get the short end of the stick, due to the conservative judo/christian CEO’s dominating america’s commerce.

Americans - and the world - need to understant something about muslims , and by saying muslims I mean REAL muslims.
You need to understand that real muslims are not okay with hiding a bomb in your underwair and just blow it up in the middle of a public place somewhere in America.
Americans and the world need to understand that REAL muslims are NOT terrorists and they do not support any kind of terrorism attacks.
And no, not most of the world’s terrorists are muslims. Remember what happened in Norway a few months ago, everyone thought that who committed the attack was a muslim until later on they discovered that he is Christian, and he even HATES Islam.
So we need to understand that we should NOT judge terrorists based on their religions or where they come from . Terrorists only reflect who they are , not their religions nor their countries.

And people Please read Unbiased books that are not written by anti-islamists. Islam did NOT spread by sword.

And you also must understand that muslims have no problems with Jews, and we have no probelms with the Jewish religion at all . BUT we do have problems with Israel. Israel came and took over OUR land and we do not agree with its existence on our land. Yes, I won’t deny it, we hate Israel. But again we have no problems with Jewish people who do not have any connection with Israel.
And if you think we should accept Israel, iam sorry to tell you we won’t. If you want Israelis to live on a land in the world then why don’t you give them Florida or something ?? We do not agree on giving them OUR palestine.
