Why isn't prestige taken into account?

Medical staff came from a wide variety of medical schools–most of which were NOT elite schools. Places like Univ of Oklahoma, Howard University, SUNY-Stonybrook, University of Utah, Wayne State University, University of Connecticut, Albert Einstein, George Washington, University of Rochester, Univ of Massachusetts, Robert Wood Johnson, etc…

Aren’t all medical schools in the US effectively now elite schools with respect to admission selectivity?
