Actually it was 33.5% this year. So they accepted 41% to get 33.4%. It happens at all schools, I’ve rarely if ever seen the percent of minority matriculation as high as the minority percentage accepted.

Minorities are a highly prized commodity.

Her family can’t afford to send her to a “very elite competitive private school!!” Dartmouth wants diversity, not just with race but with socioeconomic backgrounds as well. They don’t want all arrogant, conceited white guys with 2290 SATs at “elite” wealthy schools.

She has done an absolutely amazing job with all the resources she has. I think this is a case in which affirmative action is completely valid.

Good luck, Nigerian&Proud! you’re an impresive candidate

I look at the whole affirmative action thing especially as used by colleges to promote diversity at the expense of other things as straight up racist. It ends up hurting URM because once accepted people will question the validity of their acceptance and therefore their intelligence even if they deserve to be accepted. This system punishes the poor white kid more than anything and that is racist for he is being unjustly discriminated against. The best way to deal with this whole situation is not to play into the college’s game and refuse to check off a race/ethnicity on the application.

You do know that the information is entirely optional, so you are absolutely right. You can straight up refuse to check of the box.
