Will Grade Deflation Hurt Me Badly?

I am entering BU’s Class of 2015 for Biomedical Engineering and plan to enter into medical school. I’ve heard some terrible things about BU’s grade deflation and am scared that it will severely affect my chances at getting into medical school. How badly will it affect my GPA and does anyone have any tips on how to improve the situation a little and make the grade deflation affect me less?

Thanks!

Wondering this same question…

Incidentally, the student who started this thread subsequently attended BU and has since said he has never experienced grade deflation. I never did either.

basically this topic has been beaten to death on here.

Being such a critical part of your admissions into medical school, what sort of internship/volunteer opportunities does BU offer for it’s premed students?

If BME is really your thing, you definitely can get through okay. Most classes do curve grades according to how the class does. While the grades will rarely be inflated, they will generally be curved to above a C anyways, usually to a B-. So, even if you get lower number grades because of the course difficulty, your actual grades won’t necessarily be worse. There definitely is some grade deflation, but nothing that some extra studying cannot overcome either. I have a friend who is premed and has over a 3.8 going into Junior Year. It is possible. It just takes work.

Thanks so much!!!
