Will I be able to keep the leftover money?

What the school bills for is tuition and fees, room and board if living on campus.

So for UCR that is going to be about $30,000

You got over $27,000 in gift aid. So there is $3,000 left to pay.

You can work in the summer to earn that, take the subsidized loan if needed.

You still need to budget some money for books, travel to and from school and personal expenses and supplies, but you can try and be frugal about that and you won’t pay that money to the school.

@Lololo5

Any financial aid you get will FIRST be taken by the school to pay your billable costs. These are tuition, fees, room, board…and maybe health insurance if you are getting the school plan.

IF your aid is more than the total of the billable costs, you will receive a refund after the drop/add period ends in th term. You will only get the option for that term.

Do you have more financial aid than the cost of tuition, fees, room, board, and health insurance? I thought you didn’t have that much aid.

In December last year, legislation was enacted that made the AOTC a permanent part of the tax code (well, as permanent as something in the tax code can be).

With health insurance, I’m not sure bc idk how much that is. However, if I’m on my parent’s plan, isn’t that fine?
And no I don’t have more financial aid than COA, I’d have to pay 4k

The question is…do you have more financial aid than the college billable costs? These are tuition, fees, room, board. If you don’t have more aid than billable costs…you will not get a refund…at all.

You do have to check with your school if existing insurance is accepted by them, they might require a waiver form to be filled out. If you don’t fill out a waiver if required, the school will bill you for the insurance.

So call and find out.

this page has some information about UCR SHIP and what is required from your existing plan to be able to submit a waiver and how to submit a waiver.

Highlander Care might be worth it, for urgent care on campus, it’s $60 a quarter.

You do understand that the board part of room and board means food, so the r&b grant is probably intended to cover your room and meal plan, right?
