Will Ivy Leagues deny me because of 3 B’s senior year??

Thank you for your help! I have decided to narrow down my “reach” schools.

I took 5 AP classes junior year and I was able to maintain A+. This past semester I delt with some personal issues (medical/family), more extra curricular communitment and obviously college applications. I believe without these constraints, I can successfully maintain 6 AP classes next semester.

If you already have been accepted to Georgetown, why wouldn’t you exclusively apply to schools that are “reachier” than Georgetown? Assuming of course you applied EA thinking it was a solid fit. You are playing with house money, why wouldn’t you go for it with your two acceptances as amazing “worst” cases.

(But next semester doesn’t count in an admit decision.)
If you had constraints, your GC could speak to those, discuss it as a blip or note teacher positive feedback. Etc.

Good idea to focus the list. Make sure they’re affordable.
Best to you.

@Nocreativity1 Haha that’s a good point. I guess I felt unsure after realizing that my grades senior year and having no subject test scores would have a negative impact on decisions.

@lookingforward Does GC stand for general counselor? I’m not familiar with that acronym.

If I’m not close with my counselor (our school is huge, over 3,000 students), should I still ask her to explain the situation or should I explain the circumstances myself. I wasn’t sure if I should even include my situation because I didn’t want to come across whiny. Also where would I explain it in my application? Should I email admissions?

Your performance may (likely will) negatively impact you at some tippy top schools. If so think of it as having squeaked by into Georgetown rather then just missing out on the Ivies. Who knows maybe your personal narrative gets you into an Ivy (weirder things have happened).

But what the heck take a shot and have some fun with it. Congratulations.

GC = Guidance Counselor; refers to whoever does your college counseling.

Anything that looks like an excuse or explanation should come from the GC. You don’t have to be close, you just have to give her the info. But: as you already have 2 acceptances, she has already submitted something & may not want to rewrite it for you. Write it up in a SHORT (1 short paragraph) note and take it in to her; see what she says.

@collegemom3717 Thank you for the suggestion! I will do that.

Explaining to the GC is only half of it. There also needs to be some overcoming she/he can point to.

OP, do you feel you have a grip on what these tippy tops look for?
