2 Options - You need to find out if the course is “Repeatable” or not.
Option #1 - If it’s not categorized as a “repeatable” course, you can still repeat it for a new grade but both your F and new grade will be averaged together in your GPA. So if you got an F, then got an A, both grades would average out to a C in your GPA.
Option #2 - If it is a “repeatable” course, then your new grade replaces the F and will not be averaged together. So if you got an F, then got an A, only your A would reflect in your GPA & your F would be removed from your GPA. (But your F will always remain on your transcripts)
Only way to find out if it’s a “repeatable” course or not is by asking Admissions.
I’ve experienced both scenarios above on my transcripts.
Then use “GPA Calculator” website to find out how much it will raise your GPA for either scenario.
