Right, but the only school OP has mentioned, CMU, doesn’t require all test scores from all sittings. They allow self reporting via common app.
I understand that CMU is the only mentioned school…but hopefully the OP is applying to other less selective schools…just in case…
Ahhh, I see what you’re saying now. I wasn’t wearing my readers. Oops.
Agreed, but that’s a separate issue from reporting test scores
Hoping the OP clarifies where else they are applying because this could matter someplace beside CMU. They just need to be aware of that.
The test score reporting is a non-issue at any school that allows self reporting of test scores. Which is most schools.
My recommendation: stop taking the ACT now and focus on other parts of your application.
I took the act 3 times.
This is my highest composite which I took in june (also my second act)
The first ever one was in april and didn’t know writing was not as useful so accidentally signed up for it
Hopefully this clarifies things
Still researching colleges and deciding which ones to apply. Def will apply to a few safeties in case but just want to try my luck with the selective ones and see if i can go somewhere west coast (hopefully escape the cold of minnesota?) but we’ll see. Will def update this post when I am more well versed on that.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions for me!! I’ve been really passionate about programming since a young age and built a lot of somewhat successful projects / games, and also won some competitions. Currently doing an internship in a lab at stanford working with AI models and publishing a paper soon which could be impactful.
I think your scores on the June '24 test are outstanding and, if that’s all you report, will unlikely be what keeps you out of any school if you are not admitted somewhere. I see that you also have a 36 science on a certain test, which would not be bad to self report, but I think you would be good with just the June test if it came to that.
In short, I think the June test clears you over whatever testing hurdle there may be a most (all) schools and the rest of your application will be what determines your admission status.
Good luck!
If OP is self reporting in the common app, it is not possible for them to just report scores from that sitting (because on the common app you report highest single sitting composite, and then highest section scores across all tests.)
Regardless, I agree that they have great scores, and the 11 in reading won’t be seen by the most schools. If Georgetown is on the list, they would see it, but who knows if they would care when there are several other very high reading scores.
I think we are saying the same thing - you are just saying it better than I am.
My point is that if they ONLY reported the June scores: 34 Composite, 35 Math, 32 Science, 34 English, 36 Reading, then that would still be outstanding and unlikely what would keep them out of any school.
If they wanted to include the 36 on Science from Sept, they could, but I don’t think it would really change any of their admissions decisions and they wouldn’t have to worry about the issue in their original post.
Regardless, I would suggest that they are done with testing.
I agree no more testing. But, OP doesn’t have the choice to not report the 36 in Science when self-reporting scores in the common app. They HAVE to report their highest section scores across all sittings (so the 36 in Sci from Sept, the 35 in Math from June, the 36 in Eng from Sep and the 36 in Reading in June, along with the highest composite of 34 from June)
Oh, that is interesting and is indeed different than I was thinking.
It was my understanding that if you wanted to report just one test, you could do that even if that one test did not have all of your highest section scores. Thank you for letting me know differently!
Limiting my comment to those self-reporting scores in the common app: I wouldn’t recommend an applicant not report their highest scores because 1) that would disadvantage the applicant because they didn’t report their highest scores, and 2) that would mean they didn’t follow the common app directions.
I personally think that how a test-taker manages their time/energy comprehensively during a test is part of the entire point of taking the test.
The common app first asks how many scores you want to report. Then the highest section scores will be among the sittings reported. I think OP can just say one and report everthing from the june score. Of course this is just my understanding, not claiming to be correct.
OP could do that, but why wouldn’t OP show the 36 in science and English from September?
My school gives a free ACT test to all juniors like early next year so I will try to boost my composite then, now that I knowsuperscore doesn’t matter all that much. will post how it goes here!
Sure. I made several assumptions in my head. science will be dropped in the near future and for cs admission, 34 in english is good enough.
