Will Wesley Snipes Get 3 Years in Prison?

Its not as bad as it looks. He committed a federal crime, which means he gets to go to a federal prison with the rest of the “white-collar” criminals. It’ll be a relatively nice place like a rehab center or something.

Those are my choices? I choose what’s behind door #3 instead.

By all means, if none of what I listed is accurate, add in whatever you were thinking… I just get tired of seeing potshots taken at the superficial flaws in others posts without discussing the actual substantive ideas they express.

Kluge, we agree!

Break out the champagne. Fine job.

It wasn’t a superficial flaw. To make it clear, I believe that comparing the narcotics policies of the US and the Netherlands is a useless, meaningless discussion. The two countries have nothing in common that would be germane to this discussion. It also has nothing to do with Wesley Snipes’ habit of not paying his federal taxes. For what it’s worth, I don’t think Snipes is doing jail time because he’s black – it’s because he is a multiple violator of federal tax law. That the prosecutor reduced his felony charge to a misdemeanor doesn’t mean he didn’t commit a significant crime. Also, I think the US federal narcotics laws are stupid and need to be revised immediately. Any law that fills prisons with drug users and low-level dealers is patently broken.

Sorry for this tangent but it looks like the Netherlands is rethinking some of its liberal drug policies -

mini: Could you provide a basis for that pharmacy break-in number? As with many of your statistics, I had a hard time finding any basis for this one through Google.

31 sounds like a pretty good number to me. I live in Vancouver, WA. The information has been discussed in the papers.

parentofbear: Indeed, didn’t mean to imply that it was incorrect, I just could not find the numbers mini was talking about and wanted to see what he was talking about.
