Windows 8 vs upcoming 10

“We bought a laptop with Windows 8… and despite the fact that it had a built-in keyboard, it flashes a virtual keyboard onto the touchscreen every time you go to type. Who wants to do office work on a computer that steals half your screen!”

I have not had experience with Win 8. This must have been fixed in 8.1, since neither my Surface not any of my classmates’ laptops (various brands and makers, touch screen and not) do this. And we all type a lot!

I am bumping this because Windows 10 is available today. I put in a “reservation” for it, and am thinking about putting t on my computer that has windows 8, but I would like to hear the experience of others before I do. I am barely getting used to the )($&)$(W&W$)^( Windows 8. Will Windows 10 be more like 7, that I am used to?

I will never install any OS from Microsoft in its version 1.0 release. Historically it’s a bad idea. Joke is that v1.0 is the real beat test version as they haven’t worked out all the bugs yet. I will wait until Service Pack 1 is released before switching from my Win 7 OS.

I usually wait, like with my iphone updates, to let them work out the bugs. Am looking forward to hearing from souls who are braver than I and will install it soon. I dont want to mess with the computers that have Windows 7. Its the )(%&_W)$(^ Windows 8 that has to go.

The professional reviews on Windows 10 are very good so far, but even they suggest waiting for a while until the inevitable kinks are worked out.

I upgraded to Windows 10 today. My computer is running very slow right now. It seems like something is running in the background and is slowing everything down. The new internet browser is crawling. Web pages are loading at half the speed.

Do you have a lot of stuff in OneDrive? The first thing it does is re-create and resync the OneDrive folder and that can take a while.
